What is it with snakes?? A week ago I had NO snakes. Now I have 2....good lord they are cute and fun. Even though we really only got to hold the (older of the two) for like ONE day so far! My heart all of a sudden feels so open to these things. I was searching craigslist today for a 20L tank cheap....for when our baby classic gets bigger and found one for $1. Well as it turns out that was to get my attention. But anyway, poor baby rootbeer corn, 20L tank kit (which includes the idiot lights pet stores are always conning people into), all the heating gizmos...$50 adoption fee. AND I AM ACTUALLY CONSIDERING IT. "Blah blah...my apartment dosent allow snakes...blah blah ...didn't realize....blah blah..spent over $200....blah....might have to turn it loose." GACK!

What is happening to Me?? I think it is the start of a dangerous illness.

Be careful in accumulating cheap or free snakes from unknown sources. Each one will need to be kept in isolation for a minimum of 90 days. This is dead serious. Take into consideration that some day you _will_ run out of space. At that time, it is better to have carefully, thoughtfully chosen snakes rather than a rag tag collection of whatever you could pick up quickly and cheaply, because you'll be just as attached to those rescues and may not be able to squeeze in new snakes that reflect your mature (in terms of how you evolve in likes, dislikes of the various morphs) wishes. Another thing to consider is some day you may wish to breed, and while you may not care about hybrids at this point (the rootbeer, while a gorgeous morph, is not pure cornsnake, so its offspring can never be sold as pure cornsnakes) when you breed you most likely will wish to stick with pure cornsnakes, or will have purposefully pursued the hybrid project of your choice.

But I _do_ understand how you feel! I love my snakes more than anything. They are the perfect animal companion.

I know, I'm not going to do it....I really just wanted a tank...then heard the sad story. I just can't believe how open I feel about the critters when up till maybe a month ago I had never even considered snake ownership or even was repulsed by it.
