I am sorry to say that i have no Thermostat! I have never used one :( I always monitor the temps with a digital thermometer. I need to know where to get a cheap one that works well. I hope you guys don't get pissed off. Where is the best place to get a thermostat?
 
I meant actually ordering the stats (you've got a range of herps so you'll need different temp ranges for them) online.
 
I would compare prices as well I got mine for like 90 bucks, but it has a lot of bells and whistles you don't really need.
 
I mean I have all colubrids most of them just have the same temp range. Like 74 cool side 85 hot side.
 
Only 2 identical UTHs can be plugged into the stat. So, you will need a few of these won't you? How many vivs do you have set up?
 
Ranco and Helix both make stats that can be plugged into 6 UTH's or rows of heat tape I love both of mine!!

I use a Ranco as well. Luckily my bf knew how to wire it up, I would have been lost. I think you can buy them prewired from some places too.
 
Why weren't you using a thermostat before? And why do you want one now? What were you using to keep your enclosures warm?...
 
David, I do not think that a thermostat will be able to do a rack and a cage on the same stat, at least not to any degree of accuracy. In order for them to be accurate, it has to be the same type of heating element... i.e. two of the same type of heat pads, or two racks with the same amount of heat tape. In order to do both the king cage and the racks, you will likely need two thermostats.

Are you at least using rheostats? You can use $8-10 plug-in style lamp dimmers from the home depot to keep the heat pads dialed back, which is a necessity... an unregulated ZooMed heat pad can quickly soar to 115 or higher.
 
I never thought I had the need but I do now because Ms. Jasmines cage got pretty hot and I had to redo her cage so the cool side stays cool and the hot side is not blistering. I warm with a UTH and a heat lamp
 
the light I use actually does not emit heat as much as it does UVA rays. Without the lisght it stays the same temp
 
David, you need to know that this thermostat will control the temperature of where ever the temperature probe is. If you are using it one two different cages than it is very important that both cages have exactly the same kind and size of heaters. You can’t mix and match. Very important. Also that thermostat on the link is rated at 800 Watts. That means that if you had up the wattage of all the heaters plugged into the thermostat, they can’t exceed 800W. Also very important.

Read all the specs on that web page and make sure you understand them. While you are there look around at Big Apple Herp. The have lots of different kinds of thermostats but they will all have the same limitations that I mentioned above.

A cheap thermostat is worse than no thermostat. With a cheap one you depend on it to control the heat but it will fail and cook your animals. With no thermostat you are not relying on any thing that is going to fail. That sound awkward but you get what I mean. Don’t buy a cheap one.
