I have a important Q- Need to know by tonight!!

Bling_my_leo

reptile addict
Hey all,

As some of you know, I am going to a reptile expo tomorrow/ Well, my mom and I may be spening the night (sunday night) at a hotel. I will have my corn by then. He will be spending the night at the hotel with us. How will he be? He will ahve no warmth, either than a little blanket or somthing. Will he be alright? What should I do? Should I look for a small uth and bring a small platic container for the new corn? I don't knwo what to do....

We are not sure if we are going to spend the night, but we might.....

I need to know by tonight! Help!!

Thank you.

Well hopefully the hotel you stay at the room will be a good temp. (best in the 70's)..I would say keep the snake in the warmest spot in the hotel room (not near any windows or any place a chill could come through..make sure it's also in a dark area so the snake remains calm..(best not to put anything over it like a blanket or something as that could affect how much air comes into it's container..) just make sure it's in a warm dark spot and don't handle it or bother it and it should be okay..If the bedroom is unusually cold (like in the low 60's or 50's, trust me I know hotels can get their rooms pretty cold) I would say to maybe wrap a towel around it to keep the warmth in the container..but make sure it's not blocking the air holes..

Thank you Maize. I am glad that my new corn will be okay for the sleep over... :) I will make sure to keep him nice and toasty..... :D

Thanks for the quick responce too...

P.S. I will post some pics of my new corn and the expo when I get bacl. :)

A blanket won't really help much unless there is a warm blooded animal that is producing heat under the blanket (such as a person!). The blanket could insulate, and slow the "leaking" of warm air from a container for a short time, such as getting in and out of the car, or for a short ride. But unless there is some thermal mass (such as a large jug of water, for example) inside the cage to slow temp loss or gain, a blanket has little use with herps. Even a jug of water will eventually cool to room temp, even with an insulating blanket around it.

But too cool is better than too warm. Be very careful about placing the cage close to any heat producing item, such as the room heater. You could easily cook your pet before you think it is even warm (trust me - I did it once with a car heater, many years ago). As long as the stomach is empty, chilly temps shouldn't hurt at all. If you are comfortable without a jacket or blanket, the temp should be fine as a temporary, overnight place to stay. Just remember that food can't be digested at those temps, so there must be no food in the stomach.

Hope you find a nice one!

I think i will keep the corn close to me in my bed at the hotel for warmth. I know he will be scared, but you got to do what you got to do to keep your snake warm! I think I will sleep with a winter coat on, and then out the corn (when he is still in the conatiner) under my coat, next to my cheast. I hope this will help with keeping him warm.....

Thank you Kathy!

Maybe bring along a digital thermometer and let it sit in what you think is a good spot for a while to get an accurate reading. You may be able to adjust the AC, although I do agree with Maize that hotels can get pretty darn cool.

How do you plan on transporting the corn as of now? It will probably be in a small deli type container which I would guess would be ok. Be careful though, because when I bought a hatchling and put her in a shoebox with binder clips she managed to squeeze out and I found her riding shotgun on the ride home!

Maybe I will see you at the show, I will be coming from South of Boston and I expect to get there around noonish.

Ah okay...listen to kathy's advice..she knows much more then I do :0)

I guess since blankets keep us warm I assumed it could keep the container warm..but your right..it would need something to produce the warmth..my mistake..but I'm sure he will be fine..Most hotels just try and keep their rooms at a comfortable temp.

By-the-way, I am getting a candy cane corn. :D Can't wait! I will ahve my corn by 9:00 am tomorrow!! We have to leave really early, sience it takes about 4 dumb hours to get to the expo!!

LOL... I will listen to what Kathy said. :)

Coty- I wll be there at around 9:00 am or 9:30 am.... so I think I will miss you. :( But who knows, we might stay at the expo for a long time... so we might meet each other.....

I am going to shout out at the expo (this is going to be enbarringson (sp)) "anyoen here from cornsnakes.net or GF. net"?! LOL... I want to meet everyone!!

Coty- If you want to, you can look for me. I will be wearing a gray shirt (one of those shirts that people say pergo peple were, which is not true), brown shorts (go to my knees), and my hair will be straight. I have brown hair..... I will be with my mom...

Depending on the hotel room, and the ambient temperature of the room, the top of the closet shelf would be - i think - plenty warm enough. Hot air rises, plus the closet is dark. But you might want to double check that with a thermometer.

I don't think I'd sleep with the snake. You could unintentionally hurt it during the night.

Sounds good, if I see anyone matching your description I will be sure to say hi!

I may actually get there even a little bit later than that depending on whether there is traffic (not super likely on a Sunday) and whether we get a late start (highly likely considering my track record ).
