Cornsnake-aholic
Well I fed my corn the other day and it's been over 24 hours and she was doing fine from what i could tell. When i went looking for her in her viv i didn't see her. She wasn't in her usual hide or the extra hides i provided. The Substrate wasn't moving but i figured she was probably under it. Then i came back a few hours later and still nothing, now i was concerned maybe she escaped. OH no so i went to lift the lid and then i saw her on the lip of the tank under the mesh screen top. I freaked a little and just put the lid back down not to disturb her. I didn't care she was up there. She must have climbed up the vines and got up there. Well when i put the lid back down gently she started to move and ended up falling from the lip, and then she was dangling. Her face was about an inch off the substrate. I thought she hooked herself to the lip to brace her fall, but just in case i lifted the lid again to make sure i hadn't pinch her tail and was pinning her down. Sure enough that was the case. I know she's gotta be real stress at this point too. She was fine from what i saw, and slithered back into one of her hides. My concerns are: 1. did i brake anything by pinching her tail? Do i need to rush to the vet asap and get her tail checked out? 2. Is their a chance of regurge since she ate over 24 hours ago, and she did fall?

how much of her tail did you pinch. I've actually closed several of my babies tails in their feeding tubs. Some multiple times. I've got one that has a real skill for flipping her tail tip up under the lid just as I shut it.

Most likely she'll be fine.

Does her tail look normal? Chances are she is fine. IF the tail look bent or she seems to be bothered when you handle the tail area you may want to set up an x-ray. If you don't see a bend and she is not sore in the are you should be fine. Watch it.

There is a chance of a regurge so watch her. If she does wait 10 days and feed again.

Good luck.

i'd say the very tip. i pinched it just enough to have her hang, but no more than an 8th. Hopefully she's be fine it was on the bery tip of her tail. What about the regurge?

I will have to say the tip did look a little bent, but she went into her hide pretty quick so i'm giving her some time to herself. I will look again asap, and see, but i doubt it's that serious, now that i think about it some more. Because it was literally for a second. But to be on the safe side i will check again. I might have over reacted by posting asap after the fact, but i am new at this and i wanted to play it safe.

That is understandable. I used to do the same thing. It's not a bad thing. This way you can go to bed knowing that you did not cause harm to your baby. Just keep an eye on her. I'm sure things will be fine.

Just the tail tip should not be a problem. Even if the tip were cut off, it would probably not affect health long term (not recommended though, lol!)

Yes, it (or any sudden stress) could cause a regurge. But if so, it would probably happen right away or within a few hours of the stressful event. If many hours have gone by, it is probably fine. A regurge is more likely if you start fussing over the snake to check on it often. Once you have checked it out, just leave it alone for a couple of days to digest in peace. After that, you can look at it more carefully, and run your fingers over the tail to feel for anything wrong.

well she hasn't puked yet and it's been a little over an hour. So that's good. And i did leave her alone, i let her hide and turned all the lights off in the room, turned off the tv, and my music. I'll be able to handle her tomorrow and see what the deal is. But like i said after 24 hours, she didn't have a visible lump and she was very active.

I would give her another 24 hours minimum without handling (48 hours after feeding), even if there is no lump. You would feel really badly if you handled her and then she regurged, even if it was just a little tiny regurge.

I've known Jimmy for years, and he's always wanted a snake. He's doing it all by the book. He's a little worry wort when it does to his baby.lol Hey Jimmy, stop worrying, Let nature take it's course.

Safety First

Yes of course i'll wait the total 48 hours. I'm not taking any chances. Even though it was tempting to push the envelope when i saw no lump. Thanks Kathy

Thanks SE0822, lol.

One of my snakes upon getting them the first week did a similar thing this happened at the end of June since then the tip of the tail was darker needless to say this last shed I think the tip went with it. very little hardly noticable and never any infection you may want to keep an eye when she sheds though that the tail sheds properly. Im learning and realized that may have been part of the problem Even if I pulled the excess tip of the shed no guarantee that it would have made the situation better could have caused problems also. good luck
