OK.. Think I was lied to...

Yesterday I picked up 2 2005’s from the same clutch.

This is what I was told was in the clutch-
Mother normal motley het stripe, Father snow= anerys, snows, amels, normals, striped and motleys

This is what I was told I was buying-
Male normal stripe, and a female anery motley

This is what I picked up-
Normal stripe(no check on belly)- tail looks female still young but…..I think it’s a female.

Anery(with checks on belly, does that mean not motley)-does have a very cool pattern.

My questions-
Could the anery still be het motley?

I didn’t really handle them a lot yesterday so Maybe the anery is male?!?!?!?!?!??I’m a little disappointed,

First of all, The mother poses a good question....is it a motley, or a het stripe? I'm under the impression that it can only be one or the other. And if the father was a snow, without other hets........ then you would ONLY GET NORMALS (Het anery, het amel, het stripe/motley). But it sounds like you got a stripe, so I'm not sure if your snakes came from that pairing, or maybe there were hets involved that the breeder didn't know about. Either way, post some pics, and we can help you figure out what you got for sure.

Actually a snake can be both het motley and het stripe. Serp corrected me on this one time if a snake is motley (mm·mm) it is homozygous for motley (same goes for stripe - ms·ms). Technically a motley-stripe (mm·ms) is heterozygous for motley and stripe because it carries only one recessive of each (if that makes sense).

I stand corrected! lol. Thanks for that. Anyway, Even that being the case, I think this guy's either been lied to, or the breeder needs some more research!

Here we go guys....got some pics

Sorry for the quality. I need a new camera!LOL
They both shed 2 days ago so they should be very bright right. not the case the anery's saddles are kinda brown and gray not really black(nice pattern) . And the stripes sides have a kinda gray, actually very gray on his head. anyway here's the pics what do you think. My tail shot is terrible.

Also they both ate last night, no problem. So in the past four days they have both shed and ate, with no problems. Makes me happy, :)

From the pics you posted it looks to me like you got a normal stripe and an anery. If the Anery has a checked belly it's definitely not a motley. I've seen a couple motleys with just a few checks on the belly but you're anery doesn't even have a slight motley pattern down it's back. They're nice snakes but at this point it doesn't seem to me that you got what you paid for.

Are you saying the Mother is normal motley het stripe and the Father is snow het anerys, snows, amels, normals, striped and motleys ? What were the parents? I'm just a little unclear from your post. Do you have some belly pics?

A corn can be het motley and stripe (i.e. - a motley-stripe), but as far as I know it is not possible for one to be a motley het stripe.

i'm going to go out on a limb here, correct me if i'm wrong. But i believe that stripe and motley and allelels for the same gene.

The normal looks like a Motley-Stripe, not simply a Stripe...
It does have an odd pattern, but I lean more towards it being a stripe. The reason I say that (and I could be wrong) is that the stripe connects to the head pattern. I don't remember ever seeing that in a motley stripe.

ok here is my take on this:

let me see if I have this right--
you say the mother was normal motley het stripe, and the Father was a snow and they produced anerys, snows, amels, normals, striped and motleys ...

well according to my calculations there are a few possibilities here...

the mother could have been normal Motley het for snow and the father could have been snow het striped which would have produced some combination of what you have said --- AND that would also give the chance of plain Anery being produced. (it would be Anery het for Amel/Motley in this case scenario)

I'm not saying that this is the case, just an explanation... or the breeder maybe could have meant het Motley (I always ask for photos) either way they are very nice animals and granted if you didn't pay an arm and a leg for the Anery "not Motley" I would be thankful that they both eat willingly and welcome them as nice little additions!

Right here is a link to a Butter Motley-Stripe that looks a lot like the little guy in question. Similiar Stripe pattern toward the front (with connected head pattern).
