Idiots at Petco

Wow, I was picking up pinkies for my snake last week at PetCo, and I saw a snake slithering across the floor. I pointed it out to the woman behind the counter, and she said, "Yeah, they get out sometimes" and that was IT. Nothing else, she just sat there and rang up the next person. If she didn't want to deal with it, she could at least have called a fellow employee. I felt like asking if I could keep it if I caught it.

i came to this thread to tell my petco esxperience from last night. I ran out of worms for my fish, and the "good" fish store were closed. I ran over to petco and no one was in the fish department so i wandered to the reptiles. A california kingsnake caught my eye and then i realized it wasn't in a cage! It was comfortbaly cruising along the ledge in front of the glass. I scooped him up before he went under something, and went to look for an employee. The casheir said she didn't want to touch the snake, the rodent dude told me he was busy, and everyone else was on break! I had the cashier call the manager and he let me put it in its cage. When he came over he asked, "It got out again?" DUH! then he says, "I just don't know how this little bugger keeps escaping... 5 times a day!" I looked in the cage and saw where he had pushed the screen lid up and gotten out. Good for him, i hope that little snake finds his way to the rodent department some day.

I worry that he will most likely esacape again only to shrivel up and die under some display, but what can i do...

(o yah did i mention that when i asked the manager about his baby corns, he said "Yah, we got tons of nice snows!" I looked in to find some amels and a normal:headbang:

Sound like a Robin Hood scenerio to me.......

"So Tyler, where'd you get that King snake?"

"You know funny story, I found it in my pocket! Not sure how it got there......"

Petco Sucks! I went their yesterday for pinks and they didn't have any. I usually get food elsewhere, but I was running in errands in the area so I stopped their. They NEVER have pinks when I need them. They won't get them in 'til the 16th. They suggested I feed a live feeder mouse to my BABY albino! Ummmmmmmm...they are dumb!

PetCo or PetSmart....either has their problems and it seems to me they are entirely based on the particular store.

Although, as a group, they overcharge the HECK out of their customers.

I was in a PetCo the other day...they had "Albino Corn Snakes" two little amels and two little snows...they were smaller than any hatchling I have ever seen sold...MAYBE fed once (Maybe never)...they wanted $69.99 each for them. RIDICULOUS...the petsmart across the street had the same two types...and wanted 59.99 but they were on sale for $30. They also sell desert banded cali kings for $90. Talk about a markup.
I asked if they had pinkie mice for sale...they only had frozen...for $1.39 a piece.
Hows THAT for ridiculous...I get them at the Chicago Reptile House or Lee Watson's Reptile Swap for $0.35 a piece...heck I could get em delivered by rodentpro for $0.40!!!

While I was there this employee was going through and misting the reptile enclosures...ALL OF THEM.

He sprayed down a Cali King til I thought the thing was going to drown...
I wonder if they ever have respiratory disease problems with their snakes.

He even sprayed down the fat tail and leopard geckos...

And for those of you who applaud PETA...you need to do some research and learn their true agenda. Even the Humane Society of the United States isn't what you think it is.

Read this article on Clay Davenport's site:

He also wrote an article about PetCo/PetSmart and the HSUS:

Well worth reading...may change your mind about "animal rights"

Hmmm...so lets see...

I have come to the conclusion that it is safe to say that we should all continue to buy supplies, etc. at our local Petco?

I havent tried to go to a Petco yet(mainly cause of the negativity towards them on this site) but I think I want to go down to one in my area so I can share a stupid story with all you guys too :D

I occasionally buy supplies from Petco, but have NEVER and will NEVER buy an animal there. It's not just Petco though, PETS PETS PETS is a local pet shop in my neighborhood and it is there that I bought my little Norbie. He was a hatchling and arrived in the store the day I bought him. I recently went back there to pick up substrate and they had a sale on all their reptiles. I asked if I could hold a banana king snake and they guy said, "I'm not sure it's a good idea, that snake might be one of the dangerous ones." What a bobo! You are telling a potential buyer that you sell snakes that can cause me harm? Now...I would not have made the purchase either way, I just wanted to hold it because it looked sad in it's little 5 gallon enclosure. THEN...I went to the other side and saw an albino snow hatchling and I looked closely at it and saw that it had mights crawling around it's mid-section, I told the employee and he said "Oh wow, I guess you're right..." and did NOTHING about it. It's unbelievable!!!

Here's my 2 cents

I went to the local petco to price supplies a few weeks ago and check out there corns ~ What a joke! I asked the girl there if they had frozen pinkies and the price of them, $1.39! Then she "advised" me that I'd need a heat rock for my snake, I told her I wasn't interested. She said that snakes require them for heat, I figured it wasn't worth discussing further and asked about substrate, she did recomend aspen. Anyway, a few days later I called the store and asked if they had any frozon pinkies and the girl that answered told me they didn't sell frozen mice. I said "well you sell snakes, what do you feed them?" She replied "they feed them crickets" My advice to anyone planning on visiting petco~ know what you're going to buy and stick to your guns!
