I posted this in the breeding column because this would change the laws for anyone breeding reptiles in the state.

I copied this directly from the BOI

This is my my understanding what they are doing is taking the law governing pet stores rewording and adding a few things so it effects private owner ship as well. Do you own birds, if this passes the only legal way you will be able to by bird feed is with a prescription from a vet "Good quality, wholesome food" for birds means that prescribed by an Avian veterinarian" Thats copied and pasted do you want to be told its illegal for you to buy bird feed at Walmart? Anyway heres is the link to the law itd effect all parts of the animal industry in IL. WE MUST ACT NOW THEY ARE VOTING NEXT WENSDAY,They are trying to sneak this one through it is moving fast.

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ful...cSess=&Session=

Heres is a link to the commitee that will be voting on it next wensday
http://www.ilga.gov/house/committee...committeeID=209
Call you local news papers, call the managers of your local Walmart let them know if allowed to pass this bill will effect there sales, call every pet store you can and write these people, act now and make you entire famiily act!

Please contact your senator and representatives immediately...this MUST be stopped immediately.

In the new legislation...anyone BREEDING REPTILES MUST BE LICENSED...which includes inspections...all animals must have an annual veterinary checkup...they may even be able to ban rack systems depending on the interpretation of the new laws.

PLEASE...this is not something to take lightly...

Good luck fighting that one Derek....what a bunch of poopy! :madeuce:

I don't know how you blue states put up with the libs. :shrugs:

It goes much farther than not being able to buy birdfeed.

ANYONE that transfers any animal's ownership (regardless of compensation, which means even if you GIVE it away) MUST be licensed by the state...and are subject to inspection...records registration...and specifically ANNUAL veterinary checkups.
Some of the broad definitions that will be changed could also potentially outlaw rack systems (depending on interpretation of the law) and effectively stop all breeding in the state.

I could not afford to be a hobbyist breeder...and hopefully one day a commercial breeder if this act is revised. And neither could most people.
If you had to get EVERY animal a vet checkup previous to transfer...a $20 cornsnake just became a $120 dollar cornsnake. If I bred 50 corns and wanted to sell them all...it would cost me upwards of $5000 in vet and registration costs for these animals...which is ridiculous...this MUST be stopped.

I could not find a corresponding Illinois Senate Bill...and since this bill is being heard at a Agriculture and Conservation Committee hearing...I believe it is still in it's infancy...although the Committee Hearing IS next Wednesday...I urge anyone that is a resident of the state to contact your State Representative...I also contacted my State Senator to make him aware of any possible pending legislation.
I also wrote the Governor to let him know how I feel about this.

You can find your state official at this link: http://www.elections.state.il.us/dls/pages/DLSAddresscrit.asp

Sorry for any redundancy...I copied and pasted one of my posts so I can get the word out as efficiently as possible.

This is actually a Bi-Partisan effort.
It has been sponsered by a Blue...and a Red....
And it makes me Purple...

:laugh01:
COuldn't help it...I am so frustrated I just needed to lighten up a little...LOL

This legislation may be at the Illinois State Level...but will affect the Pet Industry nationwide...effectively anyone selling animals at the NARBC show in Tinley Park would have to have a State license to do so...and would have to be inspected...and have current veterinary checkups on ALL animals...as well as all documentation for the care of such animals.

Anyone who transfers ownership of an animal in the state (even if it is for free) is subject to this legislation.

another attempt by gov blagovich(probably not spelled right), to line the states pockets. this f'n state is so ridiculous, they want to tax everything. illinois politicians will do absolutely anything to make a buck, even if it infringes on people's rights.

thanks for the heads up. bet your butt, i'll be calling and letting them know what i think about this crap.

i'd really like to know how they intend to enforce this rule .

in case anyone didn't already know, you have to have a permit to own an emoryi in illinois.

I didn't know that...but I will have to go get an emoryi...just to have it...
Sucks...can't wait for the next Gubernatorial election...
What choice did Illinoisans have?
The Republicans had a COMPLETE CRIMINAL on the ballot...
I am waiting for George Ryan to be indicted...I believe he is the only one left from his regime that hasn't been.

george ryan should fry in my opinion.

if i didn't have a wife and kids and all now, i swear i'd pack up and head back to ohio.

yes, emoryi are on the illinois threatened wildlife list. technically, you need a permit to own one in illinois. i've thought about going ahead and getting one, and if anyone ever makes a stink about it, i'm perfectly prepared to call it a chocolate corn or something.

do you think they'd actually be able to enforce such an assinine law??

if they pass this law, i hope everyone that won't be able to afford to have their animals, takes their animals to the gov. mansion and lets that prick deal with it.drop them off there, then he can cough up the cash to care for them and register them, etc....

by the way Alias, the link in your first post is dead. i tried both of them and got -page cannot be found

It would be a Class A Misdemeanor for a first offense if you dropped them off...you can't GIVE animals away without a license.

Since I started foinf to the reptileforums (another msg. board) and somone posted that chicago had passed an ordinance banning animals, I've been paranoid that this kind of thing will happen. I've been searching mo.gov for any laws or ordinences putting restrictions on animals, animal care, animal supplies, etc. I've found jack crap. For someone to find theses things, they almost need to be on the net 24/7 looking through every piece of legislation being considered. These things slip in out of nowhere, and a lot of people don't find it out until it's too late. I just found out the other day that MO has a ristriction on reptiles EXACTLY LIKE chicago's, and that they've had it for a while, but I was naver able to find it looking through all the rubbage that they talk about. This is rediculus, where will it stop? Will it ever stop? this might be the end of owning any animals because of animal activists and groups like PETA. We're all being forced into becoming vegetarians, just wait and see.

Wasn't ther a group started for herpers that would fight agianst legislation?
If anyone has any info on that group please post a link or contact info. Hope they are still around if they are legit I think they should give stickers to put on petshop doors ect. and we could suport the petshops and breeders that are willing to put up some cash to suport are rights to keep the reptiles they sell. breeders could put a logo on thier websites to show they have made a contribution to the organization and a lot of money could be raised for lawers to fight this stuff. Just the number of members would go a long way towards arguing thier case. polititions pay a lot of attention if the numbers are up there they don't want to lose votes.
Bye the way petco and petsmart support groups like the humane society and peta that would love to have laws passed to keep us from keeping are herps and those oranizations have a lot of influence. I don't think the humane society supports bans on herps directly , but make thier own cotrabutions to other orginizations that do.
If I can find a link to source where I read that info I put it up here.

This is yet another reason why I simply cannot understand why anyone WANTS to live in Illinois. High taxes on everything, inane rules, obtuse politicians with a self-serving initiative..

I live just 15 miles across the Southeastern border from Mt. Carmel, and just driving to Illinois for a simple vet visit is like entering a communist state, literally. You wouldn't believe how many times I've been hassled just after crossing the Wabash River about having tinted windows on my car. I'm surprised that one city cop didn't arrest me for back-talking him. I apprised him of the rights I have as an Indiana citizen conducting lawful business within the State of Illinois and the City of Mt. Carmel. Basically I carry an Indiana-law Bubble around my car and me, I'm not subject to local laws applying to my car, unless I'm breaking a posted law, i.e. speed limit, seatbelt, etc.

Laws like that really worry me. But I think just in the spirit of being an American, that the renegade inside me would do just as I've done regardless of any law. I agree with someone else, how are they planning to enforce this? Unless someone is obviously violating some animal cruelty law or there have been complaints filed, then I think they should let everyone mind their own business, and themselves included.

Ever since post 9/11, I believe our rights as citizens are being trampled upon. And while some changes are for the better in essence I'm sure, there are a few I think overstep the bounds of common sense. Like monitoring my bank accounts to make sure I'm not a terrorist. Or having to be grabbed at the airport all in the name of "bra safety". No one could have foreseen the events that killed so many innocent people. But infringing upon the rights of your own citizens in the name of a false sense of security isn't the way to handle things.

Anyway, I'm just ranting on. But I do encourage all Illinois residents to voice their opinion on this issue. If we don't stand up for our rights, will our ancestors have fought in vain in 1776?

To borrow the line from "The Patriot", we've traded off one tyrant 3,000 miles away, for 3,000 tyrants 1 mile away.

Just something to think about. =)

illinois sucks, i agree.

there's no way they can realistically enforce such a lame law. i suspect that if this law gets passed, somebody's pockets are getting lined.

I tried to follow the link but it didn't work. Is this just for pets or does it apply to farm animals too. I raise a breed peafowl we have auctions and such and Ive never heard of such a thing. If you had to have a prescription to buy animal feed then all the rual kings would go out of business and what about all the cattle, pig, and dairy farmers that are my neighbors. Is it just for reptiles? I dont think they would enforce it anyways cause the only thing the local cops here are worried about are meth busts and dui's. :angry01:

Illinois is the most corrupt and messed up state. It sucks. Don't move to Illinois. Don't do business in Illinois. Don't visit Illinois. Don't drive through Illinois lest you be raped by the ridiculous tollway system.

The worst part about it is that the people of this state continue to elect the same corrupt politicians over and over.

ain't that the truth!

:-offtopic Meeghann, you have a very nice taste in cars... Is that a 91 or 92 in your avatar?

And go to back on topic... This examle in Illinois is one of the ONLY reasons why I don't mind living in Virginia so much. We don't have too many laws telling us what we can and can't have animal wise... it's just everything else seems to be illegal.

:-offtopic Thanks its a 91 trans am GTA 5.7 L . Im sucker for animals and fast cars
