I'm a failure.

Wow- great news! I think you're the first person I've heard of that the pinky trap worked for!

It definitely didn't work for me when Cerberus escaped!

I only managed to get him back when I saw him peeking out of a gap in the floorboards in the apartment I was living in at the time (It was a really bad apartment). While the pinky traps didn't seem to do anything, I was able to coax him out with a pinky enough to pick him up.

Thankfully, that's the only time he escaped.

I'm glad you were able to get her back, Jacquie!

I'm thankful I have a sealed snake room so that even if the snakes get out of their cages somehow, they can't get out of the room. I wouldn't worry about a hygrometer....I'd just make sure that if you're keeping your rainbow in a regular glass viv (something I don't recommend for tropical higher humidity/higher temp snakes) that you cover most of the screen lid with plexiglass and then spray nightly. Warm water can help increase humidity without increasing moisture. Sphagnum moss helps as well as it retains moisture well and has natural antifungal properties. Anything that compromises the fit or function of the lid is a no no with snakes. They will take advantage of the smallest openings and get out. The RBB that I had escaped the quarantine tub I had him in despite clips, tape and heavy books. I finally did move him into an aquarium with plastic on the screen lid just to keep the bugger in! It was temporary so I wasn't too worried about it.
