Well I don't know what to do. My Columbian Rainbow Boa has escaped after I was told by the pet store I bought her from to make bigger holes in the roof of the viv so I could get the hygrometers into her enclosure. Now the little houdini has got out and I have no idea where she maybe. I'm so upset I can't even think. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do next? I don't want my little one to die!

It happens. Search escaped snake here and you will find many threads with ideas on how to find and catch your escapee. Be more careful in the future they are good at getting out.

I was as careful as I could be. I had sealed around the holes up. But she pushed through it. If they designed the vivs better this wouldn't happen. But thanks for the advice. I feel bad enough as it is. Now I just feel worse.

I did not intend to make you feel worse. There are many threads about catching escapees. Search the forum and I am sure you will find some things to try. Good luck.

Starting immediately, look under everything in the room the snake was in. Especially along the walls. Especially near the viv. You can put out tape traps which are coils of blue painter's tape placed along the walls. Don't use any stronger tape. If you don't find the snake now, look again in a couple hours. After dark- watch for him to be out moving. Just keep checking over and over and over again. Look under the same things on the floor. Seal off the room if you can with a rolled up towel at the door. Cover heat vents on the floor temporarily by placing a magazine over it and taping it down. Also look in things like shoes, laundry, etc. Your best chance is going over the room inch by inch, as soon as possible.

Also don't forget to look at all height levels of the room! Snakes can climb to some very unlikely places.

Thank you all. I'm sorry Tsst, I didn't mean to be terse, I'm just worried about my ikkle baby. I'm sure she'll be ok, as they're quite hardy, it just means I'm going to be in for a long night!

Dim the lights, they like it dark. Put a peeve of your clothing in the middle of the floor like pants or a shirt. Just be patient and try to look for something slithering along walls. It's never easy to learn your snake has escaped. Hope this helps!

Pour a small line of flour across doorways with no doors, you will see if he has crossed over and which direction he went. No need to feel bad, we have all smacked our foreheads and said "doh!" when something happens like this. The blue tape is also a great suggestion, and look in places you wouldn't think to look. Good luck, and let us know when you find him!

Don't give up!
I had a baby MBK get escape, about 2 months ago. I looked for a couple weeks, and could not find him. I gave up and assumed he was dead.
The past two nights, one of my dogs has taken a keen interest in the hot water tank closet, barking occasionally like there was something in there. I checked the closet last night and found a few mouse droppings, so I thought it was mice she was hearing and barking at.
Tonight, she was just as focused on the closet, so I checked again. I found a shed on top of the hot water tank.
So, I now have tape traps set out for him and I am hoping to catch him within the next couple days.

I also have a friend who had a Cornsnake get out, and a neighbor found it eight months later, in a wood pile, outside.

Don't give up!

I don't have any advice but support for you, don't beat yourself up, It does happen to the best ! I do know what you are going through.

I was also in panic mode. Take a breath, relax and as other have already stated, look at everything, I started low.....with furniture and progressed up, they can be behind clocks, washers, dryers and refrigerators, she may be looking for warmth.

One last thing, I know this sounds silly and your going to say to me, "Im not stupid" but check your Viv, take everything out including substrate. I thought I lost a Boa and ripped my house apart and she was in her Viv the whole time coiled up inside a hide where I could see her.

Good Luck, you'll find her

Please let us know when you find her.

Thanks for the good advice everyone and for the kind words! Lily Lulu's back! I used the coke bottle trap with a rat pup (as I though the sticky tape trap a little bit rough for a hatchling). She's now safely ensconced until I can get her viv sorted and she's snugged up under the lamp getting warm again.

YAY!!! So good to hear! Now I know you will KEEP her home! So glad it worked out.

Glad to hear she is back! I still haven't found my MBK, but I did discover that he's not the only one hanging around my hot water heater closet. So are a few rodents.
I saw a small rat run down the pipe and under my tub (it's open on that end where it meets the closet). I'm pretty sure there is a small opening somewhere that leads to the crawlspace under the house.
I set out a rat trap, (hoping I do not catch the MBK that way) but so far nothing.
I have all kinds of interesting creatures that live under my house. I found evidence of a weasel not too long ago. Hopefully, my MBK will survive all of that and hopefully I can find him!

Wow- great news! I think you're the first person I've heard of that the pinky trap worked for!

This is actually the first time I have ever heard someone say one of those coke bottle traps has worked for them, congrats on the recovery!!

A week after my rouge MBK got out, my het Ghost female Cali King got out by pushing the little bin out, in the rack. I did catch her with the water bottle trick, sorta. I put two live pinkies in the water bottle and covered it. Early in the morning, my bf went into the snake room and was lifting up items she might be hiding under. She was small enough that she did get out of the water bottle (having eaten both pinks) but she was curled up under a towel.
Those Kings are smart. LOL
