Okay, our family has had our 1.1 corns for three weeks now. They have hides, fresh water, good temp ect. Both are about 14-15 inches long. My problem is that the little girl, Rouge, will not eat. We have been putting them each in a different container to eat. The boy, Drake, will eat up two pinkies. we are feeding once a week. But the little girl will not eat and seems to freak in the feeding container. Today, I put her pinkie in the original tank to see if she would take it. (paper towels on flooring). But no go. She is active during dusk hours. I read in the manual to try to hold her and offer the pinkie while holding her, but this did not work. I tried the wiggle the pinkie thing, but that didn't work. Will she starve her self or will she eventually eat after a week or so? I don't really want to do the force feeding I read about. Help.

For more than you ever want to know on problem feeders just search for those words. As a quick fix I would advise you to try spliting the pinkies head to get juices flowing. Ive never had to do it myself, but ive heard of dozens of successes with it. Also try not to handle the snake at all before you feed it. Let it stay calm.

Good Luck!;)

thanks for your suggestions

thanks for your suggestions, but she died today. We had a family funneral for her. Lynne:crying:

Sh*t, Im really sorrey to hear that Lynne. You going to get something to replace her???

Lynne,

There are two things that I want to ask
1) Were the two kept together? Cause somehow I got the feeling that they were put together....if this is so...it might have been the stress that the other snake (the male) had on her...so that was why she didn't eat

2) Did you contact the person that you got it from when they were not eating? Most known breeders have a little gurantee and will gurantee the animal feeding and all. So if you told the seller what happened he/she should be willing to replace the animal for you~

Hope that all is well for your male.

Sorry to hear about the loss of the female though~
Good luck with your male~

Thank you, we will be getting three more I think after I get two move vivs together.

The boy and girl were not together. Just in same room. yes, I contacted the breeder but I got these on sale so the guarantee is not the same. But I don't have a problem with that. She came very healthy, I agree she was just too stressed and never got over it so she refused to eat. Not the breeders fault for stress. Plus our boy is getting so huge it is amazing.

That sucks! I'm really sorry to hear you lost your snake. I hope you have a better experience with the next three you plan to get.

you say you got the snake healthy, so how lnog did you have her, before she passed away? because a healthy corn can survive a good while with no food, are you sure the snake was as healthy as you think when you got it?

if that was a healthy well fed corn when you got it, it should of (IMO) easily been able to survive that ammount of time without food, what was it, 3 weeks? you would be suprised how long they can go without food for.... are you sure this snake was so healthy?
by the way howz the other snake?

the other snake is doing just great and getting ready to shed. he eats really well. 2 pinkies every Thursday.

CornDude brings up a good point. I have seen hatchlings easily go 6-12 weeks without food.

Something you might want to think about is waiting before purchasing more snakes. Hatchlings can be extremely difficult to care for (especially ones that are still for sell at such a late date). If you can wait, I'd recommend getting a slightly older snake from a reputable breeder like Rich. You will be assured of getting a healthy feeder and a guarantee. ;)
