Hooked for life!!
I took Striker out tonight for the first time for some handling. (I'm such a baby..I bought gloves to wear while handling him until he gets more comfortable)...Anyway..When I took him out there was no hissing or striking this time...He was a bit quick and stiff with his moves..I could tell he is not fully trusting of me yet and I'm sure the gloves felt a bit weird..but it worked for both of us...I kept him out for about 20 minutes or so....He was actually somewhat calm..exploring like Maize does..but like I said..still a little stiff and quick whenever I try and move him away from coming towards my face..when he sees my had going under him to move him he back away...it'll take time but I was very happy about being able to handle him today...I'm proud of him and myself :0)

Why do snakes always want to go in your face??? (Must want kisses...) I got Big Jake out yesterday to take him to the vet, and he was cranky because I had to take out his bowl, hide, tree, lift up his super-heavy hide that is of course his favorite, kind of slide him out, and now he's rattling furiously- so I get him out, and the first thing he does is head up my arm to my face!

Striker should be fine once you have him out, shouldn't he? What would happen if you just used the gloves to get him out, kind of like how I pick up Zee with a hook, set him on the bed, make sure he knows no feeding is going to be happening, then pick him up like normal.

Congrats, glad it's all working out!

Btw - do try and give us time to actually reply lol, cs.com isn't a chatroom - I for one have only been home from work for 10 minutes! ;)

I love to see how people are getting along with there new snakes. Thanks for posting. If the snake is pretty small ,id try it with out the glove to get it used to your scent soon as possible.Slow movements on your part will be easier on the snake .They react to movement. When my snake was small he was kinda nervous like yours so I would take time to make sure he could see me and make slow movements in the tank .Im sure you have a great snake there.Mine didnt really settle down until he was about 2 but he never bit me ,its just that he much easier to hold now .I can hold him in one hand and clean out the tank with the other.Good luck with Striker.

I don't know if you would consider a little over 2 feet small...but next time I take out Striker to handle him I will try to remove at least one glove..You do have a good point on him getting used to my scent..It has to happen eventually.
