In My Face

I just acquired an aprox. 1 month old smoke/blood hybrid corn named Remmy. He is quite active but one thing he does confuses me greatly.
I have seen him stand up vertically, with no support, up to 5 inches off my hand. Is this normal? My uncle owns a boa who cannot stand to be suspended in the air.
Also.... Remmy is quite interested in my face.... When i hold him and he is in range he will extend to put his face very close to my nose/eyes and flick his tongue at me... What is he doing?!

That is really normal. Both of mine do that. They are just curious. Mine get really interested, especially when I start flicking my tongue back at them.

My male corn, Ares, does that too. He goes straight for my nose and flicks his tongue on it and then tries to slide up my nose and get into my hair. I think it's them trying to smell you. Or they smell something on you. Ares sometimes goes for my mouth too.. again, smelling something I just ate etc.

its snakes kiss's =] i love when mine do that.. scared me the first time cause all i could about was getting munched on lol

There could be a more scientific answer to it. I read some where that some snakes can track CO2 output from their prey at close range.....soooooo what you consider a "kiss" could be the snake trying to figure out if their is food...on your face..... lol!

I did that once, and my snake bit my tongue... it was painful.

Not to be callous, but...LOL. I'm sorry for your pain, but that image made me inwardly giggle :) Did he let go right away??

I now know to keep my tongue in my mouth when holding Pangaea.

I've not been bitten yet. Kind of curious to know how it feels, but if it ever does happen, I pray that it's not my tongue that gets attacked!

I'm curious what you mean with 'smoke/blood hybrid'?

I was taught that there were 3 colors of corn snakes. Albino, Blood, and Smoke. Remmy's mom was a blood and his dad was a smoke so he looks like a blood at his head but the father down his body you go the more "smokey" he gets. So blood is the deep reddish brown and smoke is the deep grey.

You were badly misinformed about corn snake morphs. There are dozens of types of corn snakes, and as of yet there is none called a smoke. I'm terribly curious now to see a picture of your little fellow.

Im curious to see the little fellow also.. =] smoke? never heard anyone call one color.. odd lol:laugh::laugh:

just copy the image url thats under the pic after you load it to your album then paste it in the reply box.. i think is how i did it..

i think he is a normal i might be wrong, we got one like that before from petco =] cute little guy you have there though

My snake is fascinated with my face also - but I tend to keep my mouth and eyes shut :)

I always thought the face must just smell more interesting than my hands, and probably he/she can smell what I recently ate.

The co2 thing is interesting

What people make up sometimes... you can't help it but this is not even close to the real world. You have either been pulled a leg or the person who told you has been :p

As posted earlier there are way more colors, also called 'morphs'. The vast majority of them don't mix up when bred together, so lavender x caramel won't produce snakes partially lavender, partially caramel colored. And the few that do 'mix', result in a 'in between' appearance of the baby's.

So, now you do know your base :) :) :)
