How long (on average) should it take for a large corn snake to settle into a new home.
I got my new snake Dizzles on Friday, shes about 3-4 years old and is quite big. I handled her today just to make sure she is ok and she seems fine but now im going to leave her for a few days to settle.
I was just wondering though, in your guys experiences.....
How long does it usually take before an adult snake gets settled and becomes active in the new home? And how long shal i leave it before handling again? I was thinking, next handling around...Tuesday/Wednesday? and then i will try a feeding next Saturday? Does that sound ok?

Im only asking these wuestions because i have had Dezmond since he was a hatchling and with Dizzles being a few years old allready i dont really have experience in older snakes settling in and stuff. hope that makes sence. lol

ok thanks. shes just pretty much hid since she arrived, i prosume its normal for a bigger snake to take a good few days before she starts to come out?
 
What was her previous home like? If she came from a big breeder and wasn't handled much, she may be shy. But you never know; I got Cherry from Carol and she is the most people-oriented outgoing snake there is, from the minute she came out of her bag.
 
im not sure what her previous home was like nanci but i understand how that could be a factor. Iv had her since fridayand shes not shown any signs of activity so far.
I know it will takr time though even for a larger snake.
As long as shes healthy i dont care, i dont think i will be able to relax until shes fully digested her first meal after all the problems i had with dorothy.
Im only going to try feeding her next weekend.
 
Maybe she isn't an active snake! The most I ever see of Lila is her head poking out of her hide (but I do see that nearly every day). Calli and Ruby are babies, but I see Calli about once every two months, and I think I've seen Ruby out twice, since I got her in February. Was she relaxed when you handled her, or nervous? Bacon is always nervous- he came from a big breeder, but he's out fairly frequently, too. Jake is secretive- he comes out a lot, but if he sees me watching him, he hides. Maizey, Lila, Jasmine and Inez lay out in the open. Choco hides, but is out for extended periods. It's unusual to see Zee out. Pepper and Jasper are out frequently, Lily comes out but curls in her vines and doesn't move. Janine and Jewel come flying out of their bins if I open them, in hopes it's feeding day. They are so funny. They spend a lot of time cruising, hunting, I guess. So, everyone is different. Probably after a month or two you'll know what type she is!
 
What Nanci said :) My big guy I've had since he was a hatchling, so don't have much experience with a brand-new adult. He's very active and lays out in the open all the time. I have a couple of 06s, one who watches me from her hammock, one who is always hidden and if by accident I happen to catch him out, he'll hide instantly, another one that I never see out and one that seems to like to watch me at the computer now that I've moved his cage closer to my work area. The littlest one will pop his head out of wherever he's hiding, but only when it's feeding day or near it. He's got a pretty good calendar in his head :)

So it depends on the nature of your particular adult. Hopefully, its one that will come out and admire you :)

Its strange, i know Dezmond so well because iv had him for ages since he was a hatchling but with a new adult snake, i have to learn all of the new habbits and characteristics and stuff.
All iv seen of her so far is her head slightly poking out, so i think that maybe shes starting to thnk about exploring. who knows? lol
Like i said all i care about is that she is fit and healthy and eats well!
