What's one more???
I weighed all of my snakes today. It always amazes me as to how much their weights can vary.
I have nineteen 2003 snakes. Their weights vary from 6 grams (a recently rehabilitated non-feeder) to 62 grams (a leucistic Texas rat snake). The biggest '03 corns weighs in at 34 grams.
I have seventeen 2002 snakes. Their weights range from 154 grams (a corn acquired in Aug '03) to 446 grams (a creamsicle corn). Six of my 2002 snakes weigh more than 300 grams (3 of these weigh over 400 grams). Eight of them weigh between 200-300 grams. Only three of them weigh less than 200 grams with 154 grams being the lowest.
I have four 2001 snakes. They weigh 436 grams (Honduran Milk), 460 grams (Cal King), 572 grams (Normal Motley Corn), and 634 (Cal King).
I have two 1998 corns. They are the fattest snakes of my group. They are on serious diets...1 weanling mouse every 2 weeks. They suddenly gained a BUNCH of weight after the 2003 breeding season. They are both well over 5 foot long. The female (snow) weighs 864 grams and the male (creamsicle) weighs in at a whopping 1,034 grams. I used to get them out all of the time, but they have not had as much exercise these last several months because of school. I have been getting them out MUCH more often this last month though. They need TONS of exercise!
And finally, I have one little 1997 corn. She is very petite for her age. She is less than 4 foot long and weighs 448 grams.
I thought some of you might find this information interesting. Lots of people ask about the growth rate of corns. This should show that all fo them grow at their own rate. Here is the schedule I feed my snakes on: the ones on pinks get fed every 5 days, when they advance to fuzzies, they get fed once a week, and as they become adults I feed them every 7-14 days depending on the snake.
