I feel like such a freaking failure to my snakes...
We went to stay with my dad for two weeks for a sort of vacation and I had my neighbor house sit and take care of my snakes. I did the feeding before, and I figured they would be fine for the two weeks I was gone. I made sure he knew what temps to keep at, that he changed water daily, cleaned out the poop and misted every so often. He's held the snakes before so I was positive they would be fine. So I've been back for four days and I see my little Yellow Belly Ball isn't shedding too well. So I take him out to give a bath and notice that his mouth has darkened. Now, I have terrible vision, so I had to *really* look up close and take macro pictures to notice:
Is that mouth rot??? I'm seriously freaking out over here. Obviously I will go to the vet first thing tomorrow, but do you think it's mouth rot? Obviously something is going on and it's not healthy. *sigh*
Thanks to anyone who responds. I'm Sorry that I haven't been around much, I just don't know who else to talk to about this. Life's been busy and hectic and it shows. I've moved 8 hours away from home and downsized my collection to 2 balls, my first corn, and a columbian red tail boa. I've called my mother in a panic and I get "why do you care for them, it's just a snake". No, he's not just a snake to me. The only other person I've talked to is a breeder too and he just tells me "I've got to stop being so emotional over my snakes. They will die in our line of work. I must accept my loss, stop worrying, and move on".
