Is it REALLY illegal to throttle this person??

Im disapointed to read this thread. I work at petsmart. actualy i work in the petcare dept as well. We never treat our animals this way. we feed them once a week, clean there cages once a week. we give them freshwater morning and night. im realy sad that that other store faild to live up to there responsibilitys. chances are, thoughs people arnt there anymore. and they shouldnt be.

When I used to work at a petstore, people frequently brought in critters in they didn't want any more. Most of the time these animals were much better off in our care. One particular case I remember was when a lady brought in a box turtle in a 5 gallon tank filled with about 2 inches of water. When promped, she told us that she had found it in the wild (this was before the ban) and that the turtle had lived in a 20 gallon tank filled with water and a turtle dock. :headbang: We set up a tank for it (properly!) and the poor thing slept for like 2 days straight. Apparently he was exausted from all the swimming. Human stupidity never ceases to amaze me.

The "Duh, it's a snake", like snakes don't deserve anything but some dirt to live, just makes me so mad. Some people just should never be allowed to have pets. There should be a background check before being able to buy a pet just like a job.

You've hit the nail on the head! And I realize these next two stories aren't related to corns but they have similar situations to this one.

When I was staying with my "aunt" (it's complicated, we aren't REALLY related) who is a large animal vet I said the exact same thing after seeing two things that made me doubt the intelligence of human beings.

We made an attempt to save a colicking horse but he needed surgery and the people opted not to do it. These people were "old hippies" as she called them and "animal lovers" but had little knowledge about the animals they owned as far as I was concerned. After a week of trying to help this horse it was deciding that he was suffering and not getting any better and that it would be best to put him down. As we were about to leave after putting down the horse the wife asked my "aunt" if not worming their horses could be a possible cause for colic. Now, I understand if people don't believe in eating certain foods, or avoiding medication that isn't herbal or all-natural, but to have the same views for your animals? That's just unfair. Would you enjoy having worms that were completely preventable? I think not. :nope:

The next day she got a call to check out a large group of starving horses that had been discovered the day before. There were almost 50 wild mustangs on a concrete cattle lot, all ages and sexes mixed together, with no food for who knows how long, and they had been picking through and eating their own feces for any traces of food. When we got there they all had their heads buried in large round bales had been brought in the night before and and were so hungry that they didn't care that there were people near them, wild horses didn't react. An above ground pile of rotting carcasses was also discovered behind the barn. The man who purchased the group of horses from an auction was in jail when we arrived and had been arrested previously for animal abuse. I don't understand why anyone would buy so many animals only to let them starve to death or why people who drove by every day, seeing these OBVIOUSLY starving and suffering animals took no action at all. :angry01:

This isn't about snakes either buuuut:

I was a petsmart buying some new rat toys and such and I see this chick come in carrying a pouch. She walks over to an employee and opens the pouch to show two VERY tiny, scarred stiff Sugar gliders and goes:"I just bought these...and I need some stuff....but I don't know what."...and I just had to think 'You bought these "things" with out even knowing WHAT they where?!?!' I REALLY wanted to steal them and run....but I didn't...there where too many witnesses....

I just really can't understand getting an animal you know NOTHING about and expecting it to live over a week in your care. Or getting an animal and not properly caring for it...since when is it ok to starve an animal? Or let a broken bone go untreated? *sighs*....Sometimes I just wanna......grrrrr

Someone should start the selective breeding of human beings to weed out the unintelligent. :)
Who decides what determines unintelligence?

What if you are deemed unintelligent and thusly weeded out?

What you describe is called Eugenics, and it's been tried many times, and failed consistently. Stupid people are a sad fact of life that won't change anytime soon, sorry.

I kid, I kid. Not a REAL suggestion.
I realize it's not possible because everyone has rights, even if they abuse them along with other things, but it would be nice if all people possessed and used common sense.

I do actually! I just took pictures yesterday around 7 pm. After two meals small meals and room to move he's actually looking MUCH better then when we got him. His skinny-ness is a LOT less obvious and his scales look SO much better! Being mite free has probably helped with that A LOT. It's amazing what proper care can do in such a short amount of time. '
BTW He has been sexed as a male. And his new name is Asher.

I also have a question: Would this be considered an "Aztec"/"Zigzag" pattern?

I would also like to report that his temperament has improved A LOT. He's gone from a completely distrusting snake to one who doesn't mind being handled. It was obviously a case of not being handled enough. It's very sad...he's obviously a calm snake but was terrified by hands/people with out being aggressive. I only got one tail rattle from him and that was the first day and his first assessment/weigh in/mite treatment.
