Is it safe to leave wax paper on UTH?

Are there any risks to taping the UTH to the outside of the viv without removing the peel off waxed paper? I'm only wondering because I'm going to be getting a new viv soon and would rather be able to reuse the UTH on the new viv. Is there anything bad that can happen if I don't peel 'n' stick?

There was another post, where they used foil to cover the sticky side of the UTH, and then taped it on with special metallic tape that wont melt... then you can re-use it too.

yup! I use tin foil to cover the sticky side and then I tape it to the bottom of the tank with aluminum tape that you can get at any hardward store I'm pretty sure its used for ducking in homes.

the tapes a little pricey but the way I see it to be able to reuse UTHs is wayyy more of a money saver in the end. ;)

hope this helps!

I stuck mine to a trivet (like you set hot pans on so they won't burn your table) and the snake's tub sits right on top of it.

This is what I do as well. You can find the foil tape at Walmart too, by the duct tape. Make sure you get "aluminum foil tape", not duct tape, though.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! For now I have the paper on and the UTH stuck on with duct tape, the plain grey kind, though I will be looking for the aluminum tape. The foil idea makes sense, but I like hikisquid's trivet idea too!

^^^... yeah that's a confusing post even to me.. aha, atleast now you have some different options when it comes to reusing UTHs. :) I would just disregard that comment. lol

Instead of putting tin foil on the sticky side of the UTH, can you just put the foil tape??
I'm about to set up Syd's new tank! :) I have the foil tape in hand

I don't see why not, but I also have no experience with foil tape! Hopefully someone else more helpful chimes in :)

yup!
that's what I did with my first one, the second one I used tin foil on cause its cheaper than the tap.
and if I could save some I will! ;)

I ended up putting the foil tape on the sticky part, instead of leaving the paper on. The UTH only heated up to 91F with the tape, which is still fine for a corn! (Obviously not without a thermo/rheostat, but I mean that's better than 120F+ which some people have said theirs gets to).

FWIW...

On my 10Gal corn tank, I have a Fluker's 4-watt 4" x 5" "Mini" UTH under one end.
The Fluker's didn't have any self-adhesive side, so what I did was lay it on a 5" x 5" ceramic floor tile so that it would not come into direct contact with the laminated table surface, and, would be close enough to the glass bottom of the tank so as to provide the correct warmth. Works fine.

For my 20Long RTB tank I use a ZooMed "10-20gal" size UTH pad under the one end.
As with the small Fluker's, I have it laying on a 5" x 5" ceramic tile and in turn have 2 tiles on top of the pad so as to act as a heat sink.
It gets hot, but the laser temp gun shows my heat is in the constant mid-80s at the substrate.
When I had this UTH under the large Sterlite plastic tub I was using 3 ceramic tiles to reduce the amount of heat against the plastic.
