Is it time for a bigger tank?

Our snake shed last week and when I measured the skin it was 2.5 feet long. Is it time to put him (I don't really know if it is a him or a her) in a new tank. He'll be a year old soon and the tank he is in is about 18 x 11 inches but the one we have ready for him when he is big enough is almost 4 feet long. Would such a big difference in tank size be stressful? If we don't move him now, how big should he be when we move him? He is a pretty confident snake at the moment, with no signs of stress, so I don't want to do anything to change this.

Can you help me?
thanks,
Jackie

I think he'd be ok. Just make sure there are lots of hides and branches and vines and not so much open space.
