So I've started getting confertable holding my corn again but something that I've noticed is (since I always use hand sanitizer before holding him due to not getting him sick or such) when I use regular sanitizer, he's skittish, but if I use an odd scented one (like Christmas smell) he's super calm and comes straight out to see me and get held.
Is it possible the other odd scent is just more distinguishable for him that he KNOWS its me so he's okay with it? Or could it possibly be hurting him to where it slows him down in a sense?

As I said though, the old one is the normal sanitizer, which he's all skittish, although the newer sanitizer that's a much more distinctive smell, he loves.

If it was hurting him, he'd be super-keen to get away. I think you may be right and he associates a particular smell with you, and therefore with being safe.

I have to stick to a particular brand of hand soap before handling. Some of mine get very wary if I use something different and then go to pick them up.

If I cook with garlic, they absolutely *hate* me picking them up! I have to make sure I'm not due to feed or clean for 48 hours after using the stuff.

I think Christen meant stick with the new one - the one he likes. I see why she answered the way she did, you said the old sanitizer was Christmas scent, if that's what he likes, use it. Of course you might not be able to find it now.

What I would do is put a piece of YOUR clothing into his enclosure so he can get accustom to YOUR smell. That way he'll be basing himself on your scent rather than basing himself on the scent of your sanitizer.
If that sounds too crazy, then just stick to your old sanitizer, haha.

I may be wrong but I always got told never use hand sanitizer before handling snakes due to it killing there natural bacteria on there skin. I only use but of soap and water before handling. Just what I was told though. X
