What are the temperatures on the floor at the warm and cool sides of the tank? Mine only ever soak when they're too hot.

Also, check for tiny insects in the tank or the water. They can soak if they're being bitten by mites.

I have a uth on one side that stays at 83 to 86 using my home made thermostat the cool side is about 72 i clean the tank out real good searched for bugs dont see anything.

Well after looking closely again with a flash light in that bowl looks like 2 small very small bugs and one more on the snake about 2 inches from its head.Whats the proper way to rid of these?I know a good cleaning of the tank and its surrounding but what about on the snake itself?Yes hes calm but doesnt like me messing around that close to his head.

I noticed the one on him while he was weaving in and around my fingers, tried to rub a finger across while he was moving but he doesnt like that to well so I quit.Any help would be great thanks.

Snakes will soak to rid themselves of mites. When I first got my jungle carpet python he had mites. I soaked him in cooking oil...yes...cooking oil. I put just enough in the container with my python so it went like half way up his body.As he slithered around he got the oil all over him thus drowning the mites. I found water alone will not drown mites. As he was getting his oil bath I took everything out of his cage. Got ride of the wood bark hide I had for him an the reptile bark substrate..pretty much everything. Sprayed his cage with "Prevent O Mite" to kill any mites an eggs. Once that dried an aired out I put down newspaper, a hide an water bowl. Rinsed him under the faucet to pick off any mites he had on him an haven't seen any since on him or my other 10 snakes. Most snakes don't like their heads messed with but if you going to check an get rid of any on him you have to hold on to him whether he likes it or not. I'm not saying this is fool proof...just what I did to get ride of mites. Foutunately I only found a couple on my python. This was like 9 years ago.

Since he is a lighter color, you can do it the complicated way that I did.. I took my snow out and held her every night would hold her so I could look under her scales, find each mite individually, and dap it with baby oil and get it out from under her scales. o.e
OR
(the easier way.. I don't have experience, so if I am wrong, someone else may chime in)
Take everything out of her cage, toss the aspen, and bleach EVERYTHING. Keep her in a small tuppaware and treat with PAM (Provent a mite). I'd treat all the cage decor with it too after bleaching.
