Ok..I am a little worried. Last night at about 9 my snakes burried themselves under the substrate. They poked their little heads out this morning when I woke up at about 8:30 and I think Razor got a drink (I think), but I haven't seen them since and it is now 4:00. Is that normal?? :eek1:

My guy has been sitting inside his hide for about a day and a half now.

Spring is here!
I rarely see my two. They are either hidden under the substrate or in thier hides. Only time they come out is in the middle of the nite when I'm working. Only on the weekends do I get a chance to see them out and about.
Well I still havent seen them. How long can they go without drinking? I got up and checked on them a few times in the middle of the night and nothing yet! Do you think I should reach in there and see if I can uncover them to make sure they are ok?? I was going to give them till at least Tuesday to settle in as I've read it's best to give them at least 5 days undisturbed...
Yes, they are housed together. You can get a bit more info about them and their living together on my cohabitation thread that I posted, but just so you don't think I bought hatchlings and purposely put them together..I adopted them from a friend on friday, they are approx 1 1/2 years old and have been together their whole lives.

TaraRose, undisturbed kind of means just that.
They'll drink. They'll be fine. Just let them chill out for a bit. If you uncover them to check on them, then they'll only have to find a new place to hang out.
And you probably won't see the water level change by that much, and you may not see them drink. These aren't mammals, and their habits are different. A lot of times snakes just hang out near a rodent trail in the wild and pick off their meals. Your guys will be OK.

They will be fine. They are secretive animals by nature, and will typically wait until the are pretty sure no one is around, then they will sneak around the enclosure, check things out, get a drink...whatever. And when they see you stirring about, they will quickly tuck back under the substrate and pretend it never happened. Secrecy and hiding translates to a long and healthy life in the wild lives of a snake. It's instinctual...

Yea, that's very normal.
I seem to have been quite lucky with one of mine, Milenko is quite a show-off and often shows her climbing abilities to me in the evenings and she is extremely docile. I'd guess she is about 6 months old.
My other one though, Raven, is the complete opposite. She is almost 5 months old and she is always under the substrate. But she is half the size of Milenko and a biter atm so I guess she is just feeling scared. Ive only had her about 3 weeks so I need to handle her more to get her used to everything and then maybe she'll become a show-off aswell, hehe.
