Hey, as I've said in other posts, I got 2 new snakes, and now I've started to feed them half a fuzzy pinkie...

They eat that quite easily, but I was wondering if I should move up to the whole thing, or stay with half's for now, hers a pic of them compared to the pinkie.

I don't know, I bet they could get it down, but I just want your opinion. Thanks

Judging from the photo, I wouldn't be feeding fuzzies yet. I'd feed two pinkies for a while yet, probably at least another month and another shed, before moving up to fuzzies. Other than nonfeeders and hatchlings under 10g, I wouldn't be cutting up the snakes food. If you have to cut up the food, the food is too big.

ok thanks, but i have no money to buy pinkies...

Like the title says I got no money im really broke, thats why I cut the food in half... Well is it safe to feed them like that??? cause they can get it down far enough that they can breath, I think I'll stay with this for awhile, then move slowly to the whole thing...S.L.O.W.L.Y.

Thanks for the help, Butters

If it's all you've got, try removing the legs rather than cutting it in half. The torso collapses easily, and snake should have no problem swallowing it.

I've also cut in half lengthwise, (easier to do while the food's still frozen) if I've not been able to get small enough. It seemedto work better than makingthe cut across the body.
:-offtopic Nice looking snakes, Buuters, great pick-ups

You don't have to worry about them not breathing while they have their mouths full of food- they have a special adaptation where their windpipe has an opening at the front of their mouth so it doesn't get blocked.

I don't think it would hurt to try. When I've stepped up snakes from double pinks to fuzzies, they just spit it back out if it doesn't go down after a couple tries.

I don't know what a fuzzy pinky is, but each one of those snakes should be eating a whole pinky of the size shown in your photos. As long as your temps are good, it won't be a problem. If money's tight, increase the time between feedings to seven days. I feed prey of that size to snakes of that size every five days.

You asked about the fuzzy pinkie... It has hair but it is also very pink, its like a biggish pinkie with hair... Im confusing myself... :)

So I should just cut of the legs, then feed it like that??? or do I cut it in half???
and thanks for complementing my snakes, diamondlil.

I think if your little snakes are having problems feeding on those mice and lets call them pinkies for now. I would cut off the front legs to make it easier for the snakes to eat them. I would listen to Dean on this, follow his Munson Plan, If you can, but if you can not afford it, then follow his advice with 1 pinky every 7 days.

But if you are having problems finding the cash to feed pinkies to your snakes now wait till they get larger. The cost is going to get higher.

Now where are you buying your pinkies? Are you going to a herp/pet store and not to a petco/petsmart?
Have you tried to see if you have a local herp society in your area? Some times they can steer you in the right directions for getting cheaper mice. There is always a member who breeds mice or sells them at a club or they know someone who knows someone who breeds mice for cheaper. I know, I can get a dozen pinkies at my herp club for under $8.

Well I used to buy from Rodentpro.com, but thats expensive, 72$ for 200 mice, shipping is the part that hurts, but theres a local place called Charlies Angels, it is BIG on fish, but also has frozen or live mice, I think Ill go there instead, much cheaper...

Actually that isn't bad compared to other places. Most local places sell pinkies at $1 a piece.
