Now that Stu's temps are under control I believe (85-86 on the glass measured with infrared thermometer) thanks to dimmer I assembled, I was out looking for a prob thermometer and got stu a new hide.

Now looking at his water dish and how he is able to fit under half his rock if he wants, I have to wonder if this water dish is too large.

Anyone else think so? I'm going to be adding some more fake plants for him once I figure out how to secure them and I think he could probably fit in a slightly smaller dish.

Just wanted to be sure before I actually got a smaller one
 
Is it as big as he needs (4 feet) or bigger than he needs to have?

Basically would there be a problem using one slightly smaller or maybe of a different shape?

Is there a way I could change his water without having to remove the water dish? It's very akward and bangs on the glass, I dont want to scare him with the banging all the time.
 
I use water bowls big enough for the snake to get into and submerge completely if they want to. So as big as your coiled up snake, plus a little deeper. Then the dish also has to be heavy enough to not tip over when the snake goes under it, like they always do. And not so shallow that the snake is constantly filling it up with aspen or splashing water all over. I use a large ceramic dog bowl for adult corns.

You need to take the water bowl out to refill because you need to scrub it out. They get really scummy. You know those dish scrubbers that hold dishwashing liquid? That's what I use to scrub water bowls.
 
Stu doesn't seem very active. I'm not saying that he won't do any of what you said, but he doesn't show much interest in getting under the bowl. Or sitting in it, of course I know he will probably want to when he sheds.

Based on what you're saying this dish is basically perfect. I do think he could coil up in a slightly smaller one but I'm not going to rush out and replace what's working fine.
