Isis - '08 female BRB

Kaminoke

River Valley Reptiles
My female '08 BRB from onelivetolive45 came in Thursday. I've left her alone since then to let her acclimate to her new surroundings, and she has for the most part remained buried in her substrate...

There's a snake in there, I swear...

She was cruising the night before last, but my camera was MIA. So I procured another one, and she finally made a brief appearance to check out her fake plant last night. Introducing Isis:

I'll get some better ones this weekend when I bring her out to eat. Her male counterpart will be arriving on Tuesday. I'm so excited, that I just can't hide it...

...

Thanks again, Ryan!

Adorable...and I love the viv! Got any more pictures of it? I'm trying to redecorate one of the big tanks I have for a bp and need some good ideas! :D

....geesh BRBs are for sure another "want" snake now!

It's a 50 gallon antique aquarium from the 1950s. I have a screen top with half of it covered in plexiglass to keep the humidity in, and the original aquarium top resting on top of both with fluorescent lighting for display. On the left is the water bowl and a medium waterfall. Giant slab of cork bark leaning against the back for a hidey spot (mold resistant). There's a UTH on the back of the tank and a ceramic heat emitter lamp outside on the right pointing in. The lamp is connected to a thermostat that is set to a timer for nighttime temp drop. I also put a small fake-log water dish on the far right side. The heat on it helps add more humidity to the tank. Cypress bedding with spots of sphagnum moss, various plants and vines for decoration, a digital thermometer in the hottest spot to make sure it doesn't get too hot (or stay too cool), two dial thermometers - one on each end of the tank - and a humidity gauge. Aaand that's that. By far NOT the cheapest setup I've done, especially considering all my other guys get simple water bowls and hides and newspaper or shredded yellow pages substrate.. lol.

She looks great, Im glad they are going to be in good hands. It was difficult for me to part with them but Im glad they are being spoiled.

The house was getting too cold for the heat emitter to keep the tank at a high enough ambient temp (it was getting coooold), so she has her own space heater now too. So needy!

I must bombard you all with more pictures! MORE!! ...erm...

She decided to explore a little after her misting last night..

Yeah, yeah, they look about the same. I'm still giving her a couple more days before I take her out. Then I will probably take more pictures than you want to look at!

I can't help it, I'm just so thrilled to have her. I've wanted a BRB for a long, long time now.

Great setup, and beautiful snake. I hope she explores more, because I would love to see her full body, but that is a gorgeous snake. I love my BRB, and I know you probably already love yours.

Oh! She's gorgeous! Love her set-up, too! The first snake I ever wanted to own was a BRB. Of course, I has 8 then and had no idea about how much care they need. I'm much older now and still REALLY want one! Congrats on getting yours, though! :D

Full body pics - first meal at new home

Thanks, everyone. Yes, they are beautiful and I do already love her. I can't wait to get the male in! Do to a scheduling issue, he will be coming in tomorrow instead of this morning.

Fed her a small meal for the first time tonight! She ate like a champ.

Coming out for the evening:

She took a couple of minutes to "kill" her f/t hopper:

Taking off to hide afterwards:

Thanks for looking!

Second feeding.. she got startled after taking the rat due to a loud noise, so she looked around to check it out while maintaining her death grip on the f/t rat pup. I moved her to a quiet spot and she finished up in peace. She hasn't struck at me once so far, but her counterpart Osiris has more than made up for that tonight alone!

I have one of those 'jungle vines' like in your viv. What do you use to keep them sturdy? When I had one in a viv I used rocks but didn't like the look so eventually trook it out.

I bent in into this kind of pattern ... _/\_/\_ ... the flat ends are somewhat buried in substrate or wedged against the water bowl and the side of the tank. So far it's working just fine.

She just shed, so I need to get some new pics, but I forgot about it while feeding. I did notice something as she was returning to her favorite hiding spot after eating - she has a perfect little heart. Luckily I managed to snap a photo as she was "escaping".

Not sure how I haven't noticed it yet! I've been handling her a fair bit, and though she's still a bit flighty she still has never tried to bite. She feels like silk running through your hands.
