Joakim - Black Milk Snake Progression Thread (DUW!)

Update time!

Joakim shed last night, so I thought it would be a good time to get another photo shoot in. He has changed significantly from the last time I got pictures of him.

He is currently 33" long and weighs in at right around 250 grams. He's a big guy for his age!

I wanted to get a picture of his tail, because I don't know that I have done so before. It's pretty sharp, and he likes stabbing me with it. LOL

That's all for me for now! Thanks for looking! :D

Thanks guys! :)

Yeah, Markus, he is a little tail stabber. At least he doesn't break the skin, although I won't be surprised when he does. That thing is sharp!

Gotta love that post-shed glow :). His colors are coming in gorgeously, Suzy! I can't wait to see him as an adult.

He is massive, Susie! I have larger than normal hands for a female, and he makes them look small. I like how big he is, though. He's only going to get bigger, too.

Me too, Katherine! I couldn't believe how dark he got from the last shed (the last series of pictures of him) to this one. It's even crazier going to the first post to see the difference. LOL

OUCH, Suzy!!! He is one gorgeous "soon-to-be" monster!!!! In one of the pics, it looks like he's getting ready to EAT your thumb (at least with my king, that's what she looks like just before BITING). He looks really great.

As for his tail... the three in my possession do the same.... kind of like an anchor that stabs at you as they coil around something else (or the rest of your arm). I love their tails! So different from most other snakes.

Great pics of an awesome milk, Suzy! Keep 'em coming!

LOL - actually, in that picture I was pinning him down so I could get a picture of his chin (which didn't make the cut). He stayed like that for a few moments, then finally started slithering again. He is very tolerant of me when I want to mess with him - especially the head region. He's not head shy, so I can actually hold the bottom of his jaw and top of his head, and he won't flinch.

You know, their tails are different from any other snake I've seen or held. It's interesting. I know he's trying to hold on, but sometimes he gets me in a bad spot and it hurts! LOL

Thanks! :)

I too have major difficulty getting my crew to sit still for photos!!! It doesn't help that I only have a cell phone camera which will blur if there is any movement. But a trick I learned from a post someone made somewhere....is to get out their hide and put them in it on top of whatever you want to photograph them on. Then when ready to shoot, remove the hide and that usually buys you a few more seconds as they will sit there for ya a bit longer till they are back on the move again

I've heard of that, too. I'll have to try it with my juvenile Corns. Joakim isn't too bad about it when I'm trying to get pictures of him. Plus he's big enough that I can shoot picture after picture and eventually get something halfway decent enough to post. ;)
