Wow, really? I thought he would be on pinkies for a few weeks, and then move him up to double pinks for a few feedings (which i've pretty much all but started doing), and then fuzzies after that. I may just have to bump him up to fuzzies, then.

Update time!

Joakim shed on the 8th, and it was a complete shed.His last weigh in was on the 8th, and he weighed in at 42 grams. I measured him on November 28th, and he was 18½ inches! (My boy's getting so big already! )
I decided to build a photography background in his old tub and take some pictures. They're probably the best snake pictures I have ever taken, so be gentle, please!
This one really shows his tipping on his head - he's getting so much darker now.

If you look close enough here, you can actually see the reflection of my camera on his head.

This isn't the greatest picture (it's more artsy to me than anything), but I love how clearly you can see his scales.

And the last picture. It's an almost body length picture of him.

It's been a few months, so I think it's about time for an update!
Joakim's last weigh-in was about 2 weeks ago. As of then, he weighed 73 grams, and measured in at 22". (He's getting girthier, but isn't really getting much longer.)
He's also getting much darker now! I really can't believe how dark he is. He just shed yesterday, so I thought i'd take some pictures and post them up.

He seemed really intent on trying to burrow under the grass. He didn't realize that he couldn't.

I have to say, Black Milks are probably my favorite snake right now. Mine is just so calm, cool, and full of personality!

I know - it's hard to imagine him as a big black adult, so i'm trying to enjoy his colors as much as possible. LOL - They are really cool!

I just can't believe how fast it's going by! Before I know it, he'll be in his ugly duckling stage (which he kind of already is), and then he'll be a big beautiful black snake! I'm excited to see it.

It's update time! He's in blue right now, but I love the way he looks while he's in blue. I'll update again after he sheds. He's getting so big and dark! He's over 100 grams now, and he's about to bump up to weaned mice. I can't believe it! *tear*

They're pretty easy to care for. Pretty much the same as other milks except for the temp. requirements.

I know! I can't wait until he's a giant black monster! He's so sweet, though. I just love handling him. And thanks. I didn't realize until I was editing that picture that he has a damaged scale. (4th row from the bottom, 3rd scale from the left.) At least you notice these things! LOL

I agree 100%. It's interesting how fast he's changed. He's 8 months old now, and i'd say he's probably about 1/3 to 1/2 way changed by now. His belly is still the same color as it's been - maybe a little darker.
How big is Shazam now? I haven't seen pictures of him in a while. (hint hint!)

Update: July 18, 2009

Joakim just shed 2 days ago, so I thought it was perfect timing for a photo shoot. The weather didn't hurt much, either. (80 and sunny. woohoo!)
Last time he was weighed and measured, he weighed in at 125 grams and just under 24". Onward!
