Just a few questions : )

I always rinse the tubs out after using it, and wipe out Blossom the gecko's viv with damp cloths after using the spray, Blossom seems ok but I don't know how Damien would react to it. I'll take a picture of the label for you tomorrow after I get some.

I think il go grab some of this too, sounds far easier than bleaching. Thanks for the threat PCS and cheers for the spray advice Diamondlil.

ha ha! It's okay :p If i get some ( Most likely in 2 weeks) Ill wipe down the tank about 5 Min's after i spray it, so it cant take effect but not leave its smell, Also if you could both look to see if they sell none smelly, that would be great, I hope the Wilkinson's i go to has this stuff, its in a big town so it should! Also if you could both like closely see if theres any change in your snakes behaviour and let me know, as long as it wont kill Damien ill try it, If he gets annoyed at least he lives, if he doesent, Ive got a cleaning solution :p

Thanks guys : )

One last question :p

Can I use this if my Viv is wooden? and do you?

Yea no worries. Il let you know. Probs won't get a chance to get to the shops until saturday which coincides with cleaning day anyways :)

Blossom's viv is the wooden type, I use the spray to kill any germs, then wipe with cloths rinsed and wrung out in warm water to get rid of the smell as much as possible. I rinse the tubs out using the shower over the bath because they're easy to pick up!

um, interesting, The woman that i got Damien from says she uses Jhonson's clean n safe that is not harmful to animals um, anyone ever used this?
I looked it up and it comes in many different forms, it comes in (clean n safe for dogs, cats, birds) then it says (for small animals) witch says, can be used on all surface's and is not harmful to animals, So maybe she uses that one..

Reptiles are a bit of a different situation. Just because a cleaner is safe for mammals and birds, doesn't necessarily mean that it's harmless to reptiles as well.

Hopefully Lil has the fully skinny on what she's using.

I used Ark-Clens by Vetark, which is guaranteed safe for reptiles. It's £6-7 for a bottle, but if you dilute it as per the instructions and put it in a misting gun, a bottle lasts for years.

Just got in and here's pictures of the cleaner I use. I always rinse after using because of the lemon scent, which in an enclosed environment like a tub or viv is too much in my opinion.
(Bitsy, where do you get your cleaner from, and is it scent-less?)

Thank you very much : ) ill have to try and get some : )

Bitsy, where do you get your cleaner from, and is it scent-less?

I buy the Ark-Klens from my local reptile shop, but you can buy it online from places like Livefoods:

About half way down the page...

It's odourless as far as my insensitive nose can tell.

Although they sell a ready-to-use version in a misting gun, I'd still go for the stuff you dilute yourself and buy a plant misting gun to put it in (or reuse one of your empty lemon spray bottles?). I bought a new bottle of the concentrated version back in November thinking I was about to run out, and I still haven't opened it (and yes, I really do clean them out frequently!).

I must look out for your spray next time I go snake shopping in Wilkinsons - love the place! Cheap vermiculite, pearlite, and snake hides (plant pots & hanging basket liners), not to mention discount prices on plastic tubs for humid hides, laying boxes, incubation boxes and bulk paper towels!

Should have some tomorrow, thanks again guys, ill let you know what Damien's thought of it after I use it (hopefully this weekend)

Thanks, George.

I have been reading this and the one method that I think kills all germs is steam. I take Slither ( no not my choice ) out of her tank, give everything a good steam, wipe it and give her new bedding and water and she is good to go :)

I'm not sure steam will kill bacteria, which would be my main concern. Essentially, you're just wiping the tank down with hot water - I'd still go for something chemical in the water, that will kill bacteria.

Anybody have more info? Are we missing a trick here?

It Arrived! woo! I'll post a little bit about what Damien thought of it, this weekend. : )

Better (and Safer) than Bleach

Vinegar and Hydrogen Peroxide

Buy two spray bottles and remove the "sprayers". Pour white vinegar in one bottle and label it. Take the sprayer off the other and place it in the hydrogen peroxide bottle (Use the brown bottle for the peroxide; sunlight will make it ineffective). You may have to cut the tube if its too long.

After the cage and any accessories are cleaned (feces/urates removed), spray with one one than the other. Then just wipe with a paper towel and let dry.
