So I went to my little mom and pop store that i had gotten my lavender from just to pick up some frog supplies. I went over to look at the babies that they had and to my disgust the hatchlings had horrible case of mites. It was really bad. I told the owner and he said that "well if you saw them they must be getting treated for them already" ummmm no these little guys were covered!!!! So i told him you might want to treat every one in the display case. and he just gave me a nasty look. I looked at my S/O told him to put the stuff back and that we were leaving. Even my Petco will pull all of their reptiles in back treat them all and sanitize all their display cases if even one mite is found. How is it that a Petco takes better care of their reptiles than a little mom and pop store. UUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHH

wow.. that is upsetting. :(

I am glad that you did the right thing and didn't make the sale of your frog supplies, I find it sad how some of the pet shops keep there reptiles stocked. It always amazes me at how the reptiles are forgotten about, and left to waste away and die.. or at least this what is seems like to me.

It's for this reason that I only purchase my reptile supplies from either the Petsmart near me, which I rarely see any reptiles for sale in aside from a odd Anole.. and The Reptile Wrangler that is also located near me.

I LOVE that shop; It's a small shop, But I sort of like it that way because you can tell that they actually take the time to care for all of the snakes, lizards, frogs, turtles, and tortoises. that they sell. And they also have a the lowest prices around me when it comes to reptile supplies. I can save almost half of what I would spend at Petsmart for the same products..

Reminds me of one of my local pet shops. I always like to look at the reptiles. Their animals are generally in good shape. However one year they got in some corn snakes and I seen mites crawling on one of them. I told the manager and she thanked me for telling her. Well weeks went by and those snakes were still there and I noticed more and more snakes with mites. I brought it up again and told her it appeared to be spreading.
Well another week goes by and I visit again and notice all of the animals are gone. All the snakes, lizards and even the frogs. The whole section was empty.
Later an employee who is friends with my boyfriend told us that they had treated all the snakes, lizards and frogs with mite treatment that they sell in the store (all baby animals by the way) and that every single one of them died.

If they had just listened when it was just one snake they could have prevented all of that mess.

I wish my petco did that. When I got Lazarus he was covered in them. Our local stores are far worse though.

Its just sad. I had a bad battle with mites with just one of mine and that was really hard and he is finally back to his normal self again. but has been a super slow grower since. like hes a year old but under 20 grams and he eats every 5 days now and is eatting 2 pinks like a champ. he used to refuse food all the time.

but these guys were just little worms and just covered in them. they were in the tiny critter carriers in a row of other snakes which i know they must all have mites now.

it just makes me sad and mad that any one could let that happen. I was talking about it at work. and I finally had to put it like puppies covered in fleas and then they all got why i was so upset about it.

uggg

It is a place out in renton. They had a beautiful butter corn :(. But now there is no way I'm going to be getting anything from them til they can actually get thier store together. It's where I picked up my rescue lavender. And she is doing good. She just shed the other day and is back to her beautiful self. She's really started coming around to being held and is taking f/t like a champ. How is yours doing BTW

The male eats like a champ the girl is a little picky will only eat the head of the pinky so i have a few headless pinkies i feed to my other babies

That's awesome that they are Eatting good even if they are just heads. Lol... Queen of hearts off with their heads...lol
