Just wasted feeders :/

Yesterday was such a stressful day and it was feeding day. I wasn't thinking and forgot to put the pinkies back in the freezer. Well, I just found them 18 hours later, all thawed. Should I just throw them out, are they done? Ugh, I'm so upset with myself. There goes 150 pinkies. :/

They weren't necessarily warm, cause our basement (where the mice are kept in the freezer) usually stays between 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit. :uhoh: I stuck them back in the freezer til I hear back from someone saying what I should do. Oh well, what can ya do?:shrugs:

They still seemed coldish. Well, I read some things, about how they are supposed to be treated like meat, so there goes 50 bucks. I'm so angry with myself.

Well... Yeah throwing them out is probably your best bet. And you think $50 is a lot... I probably waisted close to or over $150 just because after getting out food for everyone I forgot to put the bag of frozen mice back in the freezer... They were left out for close to 48 hours, no saving anything there and the smell... I wanted to throw them off the balcony!!!
Mind you I think that part had more to do with how pissed off I was. I'll be getting a deep freeze in the basement (where the snakes are) so less of a chance of that happening.

Chuck 'em... Maybe give some of your bigger snakes "dessert" so they don't ALL go to waste. But if they're totally thawed... Wouldn't chance it.

Yeah, thats what I figured. Thanks for the input Nick and Taylor.

And wow Nick, that stinks too! I'm just mad that I literally just bought them like 2 weeks ago! I am fuming with myself!

I don't think it would be a problem unless their bodies are so broken down when you thaw them a second time that they fall apart. I've done it for several years after reading in one of I think, Kathy Love's books that it's okay and that they have seen snakes eat long dead food items in the wild.

But they are in captivity...not in the wild. I don't think I should risk it after reading about this. Thanks though, I'll see how they are later tonight, then prolly chuck 'em if they smell and look weird. I'm ordering some mice from Big Cheese Rodents in a bit, so it will be fine.

I am sorry if it makes you feel better I wasted nearly $500 worth of mice. I unplugged my freezer for something and forgot to plug it back in. No one else to blame but myself and my poor memory. That hurt really bad.

Just look at it this way......
You can save $50 and keep them and maybe it will be ok.....
But if you lost one of your precious scalebabies you would never forgive yourself.....so better to play it safe. Right?

Thanks Bethany for your input.

And wow Christen, sorry for your loss. We're human, we make mistakes.

I disposed of them 3 hours ago :) I couldn't risk it.
