Just won't grow

Does anyone have any snakes where it feels like they're just not growing?
I swear Kaa has been the same size for a while now. He's so small. I've had him for a year next month, and he's still so tiny. I feed him once a week to every two weeks. I don't know what his problem is. He sheds once about every 2 months. I see pictures of snakes on here who are around his age and they're like 2-3 times the size he is.
Does anyone else have snakes like this?

Try increasing the feeding frequency? 2 weeks is the right gap for an adult male, IMO, far too long for a snake that isn´t growing. 5 or 6 day gaps should do the trick

Well, I agree, 5 or 6 days should be fine if you worried, do you have a picture of him?

I really thought my snake had not grown much in the 9 month I had him until I found a picture that i took the day i got him, and mine had grown a LOT!!!!
sometimes I guess you get used to seeing them everyday and you dont really notice them grow :)

:) GL with him mate, as long as he eats thats the main thing : )

How old is he? I'd be feeding every five days, and slitting the mice for easier digestion.

He's a year old this month. I feed him every 5-7 days but sometimes it will be a little bit longer, but not often. I don't know. It's most likely my fault. He's not underweight or anything. Just seems kind of small to me.

Have you had him on that feeding schedule all along? Usually new hatchlings are fed every 4-5 days and don't move to 5-7 days until a year. Depending on his weight you might stick to every 5 days to get him caught up. I know mine go through growth spurts where is doesn't seem like they change and then all of a sudden they appear so much bigger.

Where do you get your mice?I make sure the mice I use are raised on a good rodent chow, not dog food, bird seed etc.My birds eat quail and you can see a big difference in them when they eat "good" quail that are fed a high quality feed. The quail meat even looks different, the quality ones are a rich dark red and the "cheapos" are a pale white meat.I don't think enough people look into how their feeders are raised. That said,I think you would be better off at 5/6 days depending on his weight. :shrugs:

I have two corns that I feed every 4-5 days... and they are sooo slow to grow too. I'm not sure if its the mice ( I go to Petco ) or what. My female is FINALLY starting to grow a bit (or maybe I just wish she was...). I was thinking of ordering mice off of rodent pro or a similar site to see if it made any difference...

Some are just slow growers, though it does sound like you could increase the feeding frequency. I have an '04 anery who just hit 250g. She was fed on the same schedule as her siblings who are well over 400g. Just something about her where she grows slowly.

I have very fast growers ('05 females @ 450+ gram), but I also have a slow grower, that is doing fine, but just grows very slow (30 gram/'06).

And they are all raised in similar conditions. Ahw well, the fast growers did get other mice when, worse quality mice (from my lps or an expo), now I breed my own mice, large, healthy mice, and the other '06 corns also grow well on them.

Some corns wont grow as fast as others. And dont comparise with corns like my '05 @ 450+ gram corns, that's beyond normal growth.

If you do everything right than that's good enough.

I'd suggest you weigh the snake, increase the feeding frequency and prey size, then weigh again in a month. What are you feeding at the moment?

He's eating pinkies that I buy from Petco. I'll need to buy something to be able to weigh him. Where would be a cheap place to buy it?

a year old on 1 little pinkie a week?? no wonder he is skinny... yes... you definately need to feed him bigger prey and about every 5 days.

a scale is about $30 at walmart.

I'd suggest then that a pinky every 4-5 days until he starts growing, then 2 every 5 days should help until he's big enough to start fuzzies. Any store with a cookery section should have cheap digital scales.
As well as weighing all my snakes once a month, I sort the mice into bags according to weight. This way I can grab the right sized mouse for each snake, but for Skeeter my king I give 3 smaller mice making up the right size of meal because he can't eat bigger mice yet. For my hatchlings I started them on 1 gram newborn mice for their first few meals, then 2 gram pinks, now they are taking 3 gram pinks.
The reason I'm suggesting you don't immediately increase prey size is that it sounds like your snake has a bit of catching up to do first.
Good luck, and please keep updating on progress

He's not thin. He's just small.
Here's a picture of him and he's still about the same size, maybe a bit longer..

See, he's not thin. Just small I guess.
I'll follow your advice diamond. Thanks. :)

He will only grow bigger when you increase his prey size =) If you keep him eating pinkies forever he will only get that big pretty much. Your prey should be about 1.5 times the widest part of your snake (somewhere in the middle). This gives him just about the right about of stretch to grow. Also if the lump in his middle disappears in less than 24 hours, he should move to a bigger mouse. He should have a noticeable lump for 24 hours =)

FEED RATS! :) My female Okeetee that dropped a clutch a couple months ago filled out very nicely being fed f/t weanling size rats. You could prolly feed fuzzy rats. My corns seem to grow nicely on a 7-10 day f/t rat feeding schedule.

Yup I think you need to up him, today my last yearling went up to feeder mice. For sure a scale would help.

Hahaha. I can't quit. I've been doing it since I can remember..
Yeah, they're really bad.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll see what I can do with Kaa.
