By no means do I think less of you or anyone else for it.

To me, this topic is about an attitude. I, personally, would like this forum to be as welcome, open, and informative for beginners as it was for me. My problem isn't personal, and I certainly don't want you or anyone else to take it that way.

My problem is with the perception that others may have of US, as a community. I don't want anyone to be afraid of asking their questions for fear of being treated like a Know-nothing Loser. I don't want parents to forbid their children from being here because of an arrogant perception they have of us.

That's all. Don't take it personal, Jenn. I know both you and Rich in KY had the best intentions in mind. That's not the problem. I don't think less of you or anyone else. I just wanted this kid's parents to realize that we are NOT elitist nor arrogant. That's why I said what I said, publicly. I assume they have read this topic...I HOPE they read it with their child...

I still love you, Jenn...;)

To a degree, I agree with Chris, only differently (try not to think about that too hard!).

I'm pretty new here, but I've read about every thread that's gone by since I joined and read backwards many month's worth before I joined. From that perspective, I have to back Chris up some.

Open, public forums like this are, generally speaking, of most benefit to newbies trying to learn things. Some come in for specific questions, most just have general interests and want to absorb. Newbies ALWAYS ask "Newbie Questions." Replying back with "do a search" or "read these 40+ links" comes across as incredibly arrogant and impatient. I'm sorry, but it simply does. No quicker way to turn someone off than that. If you don't want to read/respond/put up with Newbie Questions, then simply don't open the thread, folks. If you really do have the best interest of the person and, more importantly, their snake(s) at heart, just answer the question already.

Secondly, some people here do come across pretty intensly. Lighten up a little, will ya? Don't berate, insult or otherwise vilify someone just because they choose to do something most of us wouldn't. If someone wants to feed his cohabitating snakes live rats directly on their non-aspen, unregulated heated substrate, LET THEM! Yes, sure, offer a word or two of friendly advice, but if they (politely) reject the advice, just leave it be. They will likely (but maybe not) suffer the consequences of not following the consensus advice soon enough. (okay, yes, that example was way over the top, but only to accentuate my point).

As an FYI, I'm a gun-totin, fiscally conservative, socially moderate, independent voting, religiously unconstrained, left-handed, blonde-going-gray old fart in the making Pisces. The most important job I've ever held is ensuring my son grows up to be a better man than I. So far, so good, but the end results won't be known till HE takes on that same job for himself. And I have this cute little pinky-eatin, poop-leaving Normal het Normal  cornsnake that I come here to learn about and occaisionally pass on what I've learned to others.

Hmmm... shoulda switched to decaf earlier today.

How Do U Kill Or Knock Out A Mouse Ur Self For Ur Snake

I've found two ways to kill/knock out a mouse before feeding or after my snake won't eat it

1. Play the snake in two or three paper bags and while holding one end of the bag bang the other end with the mouse/rat against the wall, I normally would do this a couple of times to make sure the mouse/snake is dead then open the bag to make sure it is (the reason I use two/three bags is incase the 1st bag breaks I don't have a mouse on the loose) I also do this outside

2. Hold the mouse/rat by the tail and bang their had against the wall of the cage a couple of times to make the rat/mouse dizzy, do a couple more times and then let your snake have at him.

Those are the two simple ways I can feed my snake a half-alive mouse/rat
