Kony 2012?

I would have volunteered, but I never had a day off. The majority of the AF personnel had at least one day off a week.

that sucks but I would think EOD would be way different than others. You would be in higher demand over there. Weapons troops or maintainers worked 6 days a week with that one day off. They worked 12 hour days even if the jets weren't flying.

My school's doing an assembly/presentation of it. I agree, we need to start thinking of us as one species. I read all three opposition articles, because I know how it feels to be fooled into thinking a bad organization is good (I used to be part of PETA and a supporter of HSUS, now I'm against both, though HSUS does do some good). It's good that the abduction rates have reduced 80%, however there is still a threat and Kony should pay for his crimes.

Hmmm... it is unfortunate that Invisible Children is manipulating people like they have been. First and foremost Joseph Kony has not been around for years, his followers only number in the hundreds. He may, in fact, be dead because no one knows where he is.

Second, here are the founders of Invisible Children with Sudan People's Liberation Army. A violent group known for using thousands of child soldiers

Third, the US IS doing something. In 2010 we sent around 100 combat equipped men to the area.
"Although the U.S. forces are combat-equipped, they will only be providing information, advice, and assistance to partner nation forces, and they will not themselves engage LRA forces unless necessary for self-defense,"

Wanted to add that we SHOULD be aware of Joseph Koney, and apprehending him would indeed be amazing if he is still alive. But donating to Invisible Children isn't wise as far as I'm concerned.

Wow Vicky, I never knew that they were involved with those guys..

Pretty hypocritical, eh? Their response? Well, everyone over there is corrupt so we can't avoid it. So hey let's join these people doing virtually the exact same thing Joseph Koney is. (I paraphrased... a bit)

Even if the Inv. Chi. group isn't the best group and isn't as transparent as they should be, that still doesn't change what's happening in that region of the world and the actions being taken by Kony and his group needs to be stopped. The means can be whatever as long as the end result is the same.

So we are against child soldiers but we are for cheap clothing from Discount Chain Stores made by child slaves in other countries, we eat food from other countries where workers of all ages are sprayed with pesticides made in the USA , but are EPA-not-allowed-to-be-applied in the USA, are we a nation of spoon-fed-by-the-media hypocrites? I started to wonder. How will sending military force to shoot child soldiers help those children?

But then I ran across this curious note:
"The largest on-shore oil field in sub-Saharan Africa was recently found… where? Uganda

After eleven years in Iraq and Afghanistan which ended up an obvious invasion of sovereign nations purely for the exhaustion of natural resources, it would be near impossible to convince the American people to enter another oil-rich area under the pretext of war."

The article has loads of numerical links to backup the research used to create the text. It is a good read. Clearly there is much to consider.

Those people need to learn their geography again. Afghanistan does not have any oil, it is rich in minerals, but no one knew that until a few years ago when some amazing deposits were found and China and other countries started trying to horn in on them... And, Afghanistan was run by a group of people who actively supported/support terrorism. Ugh, media people kill me.

“What that video says is totally wrong, and it can cause us more problems than help us,” said Dr Beatrice Mpora, director of Kairos, a community health organisation in Gulu, a town that was once the centre of the rebels’ activities.

“There has not been a single soul from the LRA here since 2006. Now we have peace, people are back in their homes, they are planting their fields, they are starting their businesses. That is what people should help us with.”

I think it is funny that the "Invisible Children" campaign is getting negative attention for doing the exact same thing that H$U$ does... Anyone else draw that comparison, or was it just me?

You know, I didn't like them when they were on campus a couple of semesters ago trying to get students to donate money to their cause... They just seemed shady (as a group) I do not recall if the founders ever came out.
