I got a nice deal on a tempgun.com PE2 which has a laser and takes better more accurate readings than the lower models. Unfortunately it is an older unit and uses expensive watch batteries rather than cheap easy to find (and recharge) AAA batteries like the new version of the PE2.
As Nanci says, a nice toy, useful at times but it doesn't replace a good digital thermometer with a probe permanently mounted in the right spot.
And mine does seem to run through batteries ridiculously fast, but that might be due to the bad older design. if I leave it laying button down, the button is pressed constantly and drains the battery. Or if something, even very light, is on top of it, same thing. I am discovering that the deal, while still decent, wasn't as great a deal as I thought . =)
FWIW I got it for $19 shipped, it goes for $45 plus shipping for a new one.
