I've noticed recently a lot of snakes popping up with leucistic genes. I was wondering why there isn't a leucistic cornsnake. Is this because this type of cornsnake isn't possible, or simply a matter of the gene not having ever been isolated before?
 
once its genetic its possible. it would be cool. think of a blizzard with blue eyes, or black ect... that would b sik :rolleyes: :flames:
 
It will be popular, but unfortunately, people are going to be very suspicious that somebody crossed a leucistic Tx. rat into it and that it is a hybrid. Hopefully, when one does turn up, the lucky breeder will have good records and a good reputation to squelch any controversy that may pop up.

It was actually seeing some of Don's leucistic rats that made me post about this. I remember reading when the first leucistic BPs came about sometime a little over a year ago. It was an exciting time for BP keepers. I'm far more intrigued by the gray/blue eyes than by the whiteness of the snake.
 
I find that quite a few customers who want blizzards want ones that are REALLY white, and that some people for some reason kind of freak out about red/pink eyes - not sure why. A leucistic would solve both problems, as long as we can assure those who care about such things that it really is 100% corn.

Actually, I am quite surprised that nobody has already been breeding and selling corn / leucistic Tx. rat hybrids. Or maybe they are, and I just missed it.

What do you think would look better, a leucy texas x corn or a leucy black x corn?

I'd assume that someone out there has crossed it---it's just something that a lot of people think about. With the number of hybrids that are already being produced, I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a leucy corn hybrid floating around.

Either way, you're right. If they pop up, people are going to be very suspicious.
 
Y'know, I'm pretty sure there's someone out there in cornsnake land quietly line breeding 5 generations of corns that had some leucistic rat in there, to get some F5's and F6's that are visually indistinguishable from pure corns but get the leucism from their gr, gr, gr, gr gr grandparent... They're probably looking at it as a long term investment, and I see their point (if this is going on) -but it's not so honest...
