Light off or on?

Corn Mania

Corn Hopper
hi all, i am new to the forums and i had a few questions regarding the heating. i have both a heating pad and a 40 watt light bulb used on my new corn snake (purchased on sunday). i keep one pad in one side of the tank and have the light in the middle, is it a good idea to kepp the light in the middle or in the "cooler" side?

and after my snake has been feed should i leave the lgiht on during the night so it can digest better or should i just leave the pad on and leave the side he is hiding at room temperature?

The idea is to make one warm side and one cool side, so put all of your heat (bulb and pad) all the way to one side so that you will have as big of a gradient as possible. Use a thermometer to find out just how warm or cool it is on the both ends at night and during the day. Mid to high 80s is good on the warm side, as long as it is much cooler on the opposite side.

You can use a higher or lower wattage bulb to change temps, or lift the cage a little off the heat pad with a shim if it is too hot. Just do whatever you have to do to adjust temps as needed. Be sure to occasionally re-check temps as the seasons change and your house becomes either hotter or colder than it was last time you checked.

Either turn the lights on when you get up and off when the sun sets or put it on a timer to allow your snake some sort of photoperiod.

Good luck!
