do you guys have those uvb lights? i'm just wondering if they have to have those or not. because they are kinda expensive. does it have a direct effect on the way they act or something?

The Corn Snake Manual states, "The UV they emit seems inconsiquential to healthy snakes' well-being as far has been determined to date, but it doesn't seem to hurt either. It could be be of benefit to problematical or sick animals if they're able to get very close".

The Corn Snake Manual by Cathy and Bill Love is a handy herper tool.

My corns are from a breeder who has been breeding corns for 15 years and has never used artificial lighting, just heat pads for warmth, and has never had a problem. I have followed their method with no problems. Corns are generally nocturnal and will usually shy away from light. They also seem to settle a lot better in dimly lit areas.

I have never used any extra lighting for my cornsnake and have never had any problems with her, and the breeder I got her from dosn't either but I think some people use lights in their display cages to brighten it up.

UV lighting isn't necessary for cornsnakes and other nocturnal predators. It's essential for many reptile species, who utilize the UV to properly regulate calcium levels.

Thanks for the input. its comforting, i was getting worried thinking that i was depriving or neglecting my snake.
