little guy

Went on a long hike on saturday (20 miles) and found this little guy.
This is the first time I've ever been bitten by a snake, he got me two or three times, although I couldn't actually feel anything.
Also musked me, I thought only garters did that.
He's about the thickness of a pencil and about 18 inches long or so. I'm guessing it's a baby bullsnake, correct me if I'm wrong.
It was the highlight of my day.

Congrats on your find! Always nice to go for a hike and find a wildly lil fellow. and i dont think its a bull snake. it looks like a baby racer. either blue racer or yellow bellied racer. pic kinda dark hard to tell. but congrats on your find!

i was looking at some info on yellow bellied racers and came across this quote
"Additional notes: A fast moving species that is difficult to capture in the wild. May excrete musk and bite when handled."

I think any snake musks really! One of my corns is known for musking. I just think garters are more known for it because of the bad smell they excrete.

I've never found a snake in the wild in my adult life. Ever!

Well, I just took this little guy back to where I found him.
I would have liked to keep him, but I figured he should be back out in the wild.
I don't have a living space for him anyway.
I am convinced that my original guess was wrong and that he is a juvenile racer of some type.

here are a few better pictures

Nice find! It's probably better he went "home", I hear most racers are very hard to tame and tend to stay aggressive.
