Live or pre-killed?

wishing more time for 8
Today at work i was gonna feed one of the adult corn snakes we are babysitting, and one of my co-workers, Chris, was argueing that I should pre-kill the mouse, and wouldnt let up about it. well, i still gave it a live and he killed and ate it without any problems, but still chris was trying to prove me that feeding them live is very very bad. He had bred and kept many many different colubrids before in the past and has had burmese and reticulated pythons, so he knows a good bit bout his stuff. Well his reason for pre-killed is that the rat could bite the snake and cause serious injuries, or even bite it in the eye and blind the snake, but that was his only reasoning, and i absolutely agree that those things can and do happen often, seeing as though its happends many a times to his snakes, but i still would rather feed them live just because its in their nature to kill their own food, although keeping it in captivity isnt natural, so im torn between the arguement.
So what do yall do? kill, or pre-kill?
looking forward to see responses!

There has been a lot of discussion on this topic before. And the general concensus is that the safest thing to do for your snake is to feel it f\t or prekilled. You must ask yourself, do you want to feed live really because it is better for the snake? Because personally I dont think the snake would care either way as long as it gets fed. Granted, some snakes ARE pickier and would only eat live. But like yourself said, live feeding poses so much more dangers, so why put your snake through it if you can help it?

hmm i musta posted this before i added the poll...?...lol

im not currently taking the risk, but i would like to know what the ups for live feedings are, so that i can choose. so far, everyone says f/t, and i guess im leaning towards that myself.

f/t!

Don't put your snake at risk! Wouldn't you feel really bad if it got hurt due to something you could have totally prevented? The snake never asked to be kept as a pet, you owe it saftey. The mouse never asked to be a feeder, use humanly killed f/t. What is natural is for a snake to hunt down injured or even just stupid mice in the wild, it's natural selection at work. And in nature, the mouse always has a chance of getting away. There is nothing nautral about sticking a perfectly healthy mouse in a small space with your snake.

And I'm sure if your snake will f/t, he really dosen't care. How big are their brains again?

I'd have to go with f/t. We got our snake about 3 yrs ago. The pet store we got her from fed live so we continued to do the same thing. In the past 6 months or so we moved up to small rats for her, I always worried the rat may injure her.

After having started coming here I decided to try f/t on her, boy did she take it with np. So my vote definately would be f/t. Much safer for the snake no matter how you look at it

I don't have a snake yet, but I am only going to feed him frozen!

I have read all over how snakes can get injured by live prey, and I don't want my snake to get hurt.
