=] Sorry to get everyone excited, i fear you will be let down, but i was so pleased when i took these pictures and except for extreme under-exposure(?) and bluriness? Do I just need a new camera or is it something with the lighting or what? Thanks all

Very cute wee one and the bluriness is just lack of focus. Its not the camera though just play with your settings a little:)

Very cute stripe! Sometimes I have luck switching to 'manual focus' on my camera if the pictures are all coming out blurry. Switching the 'macro' on helps sometimes too.

Just another one of the stunner. She's got her fresh colours and just seems to be getting brighter! So great to watch her get all big and stuff... She's wonderful!

I have the same problem, My corn pics always come out blurry. Ill have to try using the macro. Anyway, that is one awesomely orange snake you have

Try macro. I always use auto-focus. Focus on the head, until it locks on, and then you can center the snake in the frame as you like.

put it on macro, autofocus is better for scenes or anything where youre more than a metre away. its the little symbol on your camera that looks like a little flower. it doesnt look underexposed. autoflash is probably fine but if it seems too bright, and the room is well lit anyway then try turning off the flash, but hold it as still as possible. going somewhere with natural daylight helps. focus before you press the shutter as well.

You could also be holding the camera too close. I notice when I hold my camera less than 12 inches from the item I want to photograph that it comes out blurry and slightly off color.

Lovely snake by the way!

Blurry images are often caused by motion blur. Does your camera have image stabilization. Even if it does, shooting at 800 ISO without flash indoors with normal lighting is likely to cause blur...especially if your aperture is anywhere above 4.

Do you know the settings for that shot? I can help you more if you give me some info about it. What distance were you from the snake? Were you zoomed in all the way, or zoomed out for a wide shot?

WHen you zoom in, your minimum focusing distance increases. So if you try to get really close, and also zoom, you will never be able to focus. When I do a macro, I zoom out all the way, and then bring my camera as close as it will allow and still focus. Do you get a green indication that it has focused?

A tripod always helps, as does a timer delay on the shutter. Pressing the button to take the picture is one of the main causes of camera shake. Using a 2 second timer will give you 2 seconds to recompose the shot, exhale, and hold PERFECTLY still. You can't always capture the emotion you want due to the delay, but you can usually eliminate motion blur.

If you can supply the info below for any of your images, I may be able to tell you what happened, and what you can do to get better shots.

Camera Model
Shutter Speed
Aperture
ISO
Focal Length (were you zoomed in, or out)

Well, the first picture I believe was actually taken with my iPhone, the second with an Olympus µ600 (wtf?) I'm guessing shutter speed= slow lol, i'm sorry, photography has never been my field so I haven't a clue what aperture is or ISO *it'a old, cant even fin it on the net =s*... And usually I dont even touch the zoom cus I may aswell be taking a photo of a moving train!!
Thanks so much everyone for your help and ideas, your're doing my snakes a favour as my pics do them no justice haha! Thanks

Thanks for all the help everyone.. Improvement?! Also figure out how to resize ... Makin em look tht lil bit even better! All I did was press the flower thing !! ... These were even taken with no flash! Thanks everyone!

What an improvement! That first new pic, especially, is really, really nice!!! It's easier in warm weather when you can plant the snake in a tree (where you can get him back!) and have both hands free.

Haha! We're lucky if we get a summer hot enough over here!! Even then we only seem to get max 3 days of relatively hot weather! Thanks again everyone for helping me to get a decent pic!!!!!!!
