Lost snake

I had mine escape once for over a month and there was an open doggy door literally 3 feet from my bedroom door. It was the middle of summer, but we found it in the living room. So keep hope I thought for sure it was gone for good

Sounds like you should attend an Escaped Snakes Anonymous meeting.

 I guess I'm a member of that one, too!

Thanks. I can't stop hoping. I love Dolly so much. In fact, I've never turned off the heating in his viv.

Yeah I left mine on for a while because I wanted it to be ready for her if/when I found her lol I'm not sure how long I left it on.

I once lost a little pet Florida Brown snake, and weeks later he emerged from deep, deep inside a hollow tree viv decoration where he had found a completely hidden hiding place. Luckily, I had kept all of his decor, hides and dishes inside the viv for safekeeping after I had given up and disconnected everything. I was flabbergasted to see him roaming around in there. It would be wonderful if Dolly were actually hiding in his viv somewhere, also. Hope you find him soon!

Thanks for your good wishes. That would be wonderful, but no hollow decor. Glad you found your little one! These found snakes give me hope.

I'm sitting here hoping Dolly will slither into view.

I have such mixed feelings tonight. I'm all ready for Tinley tomorrow. I cleaned out the viv and got it ready for a new snake. It has Velcro wrap straps now that I can really cinch down so the viv won't open even if the snake can move the latch like Dolly did.

I have enough supplies to put together another viv for Dolly in minutes if he shows up, also with Velcro straps, though heating will be on a rheostat for a few days in that event, I'll only have one thermometer, and it will be a little sparse on formal decor at first.

I feel sad about that in some ways, but I realize that as much as I pray, Dolly's return is no sure thing. Better to put the equipment I have to use. I can get anything else for Dolly in 24 to 48 bours. I did fill his deli cup to save some of his bedding so it will smell like home to him.

Because of this tough decision to prepare the viv for another snake. I've probably felt as much grief today as I did since the initial shock of the escape. Everything is bittersweet. However, I'm prepared to fall in love with a second snakey tomorrow who will be different but just as special as "Dolls" in his or her own way.

Needless to say, if I bring someone home, which is highly likely, there will be a new thread with pictures!

If Dolly shows up, of course you all will be the second to know. Thanks again for all of your kind and hopeful words of support. <3

Good luck tomorrow! It's gonna be a big show and lots to see, so look around for a bit. Then narrow your choices to 3 or 4 before picking one out! :grin01: You'll have too much to chose from for sure. Have a great day!

Good luck! The important thing is to enjoy the search. Remember that you aren't looking for a /replacement/ for Dolly (that's not possible and will make you feel sad and guilty), you are searching for yet another special addition to your snakey family. When Dolly shows up again, you'll have two awesome snakes to love and care for.

Thank you so much. I have my USARK t-shirt and my credit card all laid out for tomorrow. I definitely plan on enjoying the experience. It looks the the weather will be ideal for snake transport. :D

Thank you so much. Dolly is irreplaceable for sure and I have no doubt that the new little snake pal will be just as special as well. The only thing better than one corn snake is two corn snakes. (separate vivs of course ;) )

Hi again! Saw this on cornsnakes.com (the Facebook page) ... not sure if you're on Facebook or not, but they were talking about a lost snake and I copied this from Barbara Modes (if you're reading this Barbara, hope you don't mind!) "We lost a few befor too, found all of them again on the strangest Places-twice in the DVD Rack, once behind the Fridge, a 6 Week old Baby downstairs in our Neighbors Apartment (still can't figure out how she got down two Flights of Stairs), hanging down under the Kitchentable, under the Dogs Waterdish, in the Snake Utilitie Shelf above the Cage, under the Dogs Blanket and Wild Child now in a Towel."

Thought maybe there were a couple other things here to consider! I don't try to keep throwing stuff at you, but none of us have given up yet! :)

Thanks, I haven't either. While I'm no longer running around the house, driving myself crazy, I don't open a door, drawer, cabinet, bag, or box, etc., without looking. I don't walk into a room, especially at night without hoping to see my little guy. I still have grocery bags under furniture hoping to hear a rustle. I also have a huge bag of pinks and can periodically set a bottle trap.

Thanks for your continued care and support!

It's been one month since Dolly escaped. I really miss him and am still hoping we will see him again. Love you, Dolly <3

Every time I see an update on this thread my heart jumps. So sorry to hear that he is still exploring. Crossing my fingers that he will be found.

Yeah, same here I'm always hoping it's going be the message saying that she found her snake
