Mailbox Corn Snake

Here is a funny story..... Every year my wife and I rent a house for a week down in Marathon Key, FL. About two months ago while we were staying at the house, I went to check the mail box. As I stick my hand to get the mail out I heard a small sound like if something was rattling. When I look inside there was a snake ready to strike at me. I freak out :)nope:) but then I said..... wait a second. Is that what I think it is? Yep..... Bingo a beautiful Key corn snake inside a mail box. As i did more research I find out that Boot Key is within the city limits of Marathon. I have not even sex the snake yet but to my surprise is eating fuzzy mice with gusto.

John..... Please let me know what you think. I did not take any pics of the belly but the color is pale orange with incomplete checkers on its ventrum.

Thanks for looking!

You too? We often leave out back door open. Last night as I'm headed to bed I glanced down and saw a classic corn slithering across one of the adult's vivs. So I picked him up and checked to see which of the three visual normal classics had gotten out. None of them. So I guess he's just a wild cornsnake that came in. I've gone herping only to find everything except a wild corn, and now this one finds me. My ego can't handle it. Evidently cornsnakes know when to adopt good people. Glad you're not the only one being adopted by wild things.

What's the belly look like on that little guy? That would be great to get an outcross. Also great if you registered him with ACR, so the history could be traced.

Very good looking guy/girl, those boot keys that I have are a little more hypo looking but the belly sounds the same. Nanci do you have any pics of my boot keys when they were littler?
Cool find, we will definately have to cross these guys and girls!
John

Those are wonderful stories. Something is wrong at my place. We only get cotten mouths and rattlers.

Thanks John and Nanci! They do have a hypo look to them. Could that be a developmental process? Who knows?. I guess only time will tell. I will try to get some pics of his/her ventrum. I should be back to the same place in mid August. My goal is to check every single mailbox within the vicinity.......:crazy01:.....LOL.

Thanks again!

I've seen several snakes at shows that were claimed to be WC from the keys. They vary about as much as mainland corns do, but tend to be more hypo and less belly checked.

Update...after all he does looks different than the Boot Key corns...

Mailbox corn snake - Marathon Keys, FL.....

Belly shot....

VS....Boot Key, FL corn snake.....

Neat stuff...
