male & female size

mattsnake

snake hunter
I was wondering if the size varys with the sex of the cornsnake. I am pretty sure the corn manual says males have a tendencie to get bigger, but is this very often the case?

My male is quite large, but I don't know if that's always the case. My one female is about as large as the male, while the other female is much smaller than both of them. I think it's more genetics of the animal than the sex.

of my 4 full size corns the 2 biggest are males and the two smaller are females. I have 2 ghosts who are both about 11 months old and the male is 174g whereas the females 125 or so and they're on the same feed schedule.

I've noticed males seem to grow faster initially in my collection even though it's the girls that I want to grow!

it's not always the case females can grow up to 6 feet some times and most males i see are only about 5 feet but i guess it's depents no the type of snake

the length and weight of corn snakes will depend on Genetics. I have a male snow that is 3.5 years old, and is a little over 5 foot, weighing in around 300 grams or so. my Female snow, is older about 4.5 years, only about 3.5 foot long, and weighing in right around 200. I bought the Female from CAV, and he had her from a pretty young age. He told me that she hasn't gotten any bigger, and neither did her clutch mate.

I believe that Cathy Love states in her book somewhere about the size difference between male and female. you might want to look there.

My two adults are almost exactly the same size (or were before breeding). Both right around 52" and my male was 608 grams while my female was 611 grams. She's a '98 and he's an '00 so they're both full grown. I'd think it would have to do with the genetics more than the environmental conditions.

Although males aren't ALWAYS larger (in corns or humans, lol!), it is often the case. If I pulled out my 10 or 15 largest adults, probably only a couple would be females.
