Mandatory Optional Items

Okay, so the title is a bit confusing, so let me explain.

I'm going to assume as a general rule here that everyone understands the basic husbandry of their snakes in terms of what equipment you *need* to maintain them. However, that aside, I'm sure a lot of people do additional things in their snake's homes.

What non-mandatory items do you find yourself ALWAYS using in the vivs for your snakes?

For me personally, I always add a small, baseball sized rock to aid them in shedding, and a small sturdy branch in the event that they wish to climb a bit. What do you all include?

As much ground cover as I can fit in, in the form of plastic foliage. Looks great and it helps them move about the tank with the illusion of being out of sight.

I always have more than the mandatory two hides (one at the warm end and one at the cool end) and different sorts, to allow for individual preference. I use a mix of earthenware flowerpots and cork bark on ground level, with paper mache hanging basket liners on higher levels (so if they fall off the shelf, they don't cause injury).

I love to have things that not only the snakes can use to climb on/hide in, but also that look nice. I use driftwood branches, fake plants, and a big rock.

Branches
Extra hides made of paper cores of different sizes - some cores for packaging have rectangular cross sections make them great to stack
Small round baskets in the "trees"
Fake vines
Deep substrate to burrow in

pine cones, which add lots of surface area. But only after they've been baked @ 250 for 30 minutes, but I usually forget to set the timer, so well done. And only from places where herbicides are not in use.

These are all pretty great ideas. But I don't see how I would manage to fit them into my tank without it being super overcrowded!
