Okay this may sound a bit silly but here goes...How do I measure the length of my corns? Do I just forceablly stretch them out on a tape measure? They seem to hate that plus it's not nearly as accurate as I would've liked and I didn't want to hurt them.
I usually get full sheds and just measure the shed. I take into account the stretch from the shed skin. It gives me a rough estimate of how long mine are.
Or if neither of those methods apply, get a measuring tape designed for measuring us... those flexible ones for measuring your waist etc. They can be bought from most craft stores and then you don't need the snake to be straight
A really simple solution is to get a long piece of string. Then you just put the end of the string at their nose and slowly flow down their body to their tail. You can then straighten the string out and measure that. Its a pretty simple and cheap solution.
Im not sure that this is the best way for home snakes, but I remeber that at one point when a research team was taking information on snakes they put them in clear piping tubes that would stretch them out then messure them in the tube... its just a sugestiong I liked the last one
Why bother with all of these other less-than-ideal methods when the snake measurer program is so simple and accurate? Pretty much everyone these days should have access to a digital camera or cell phone that takes pics. If not, go buy a cheap 640x480 digital cam for $5.
I take offence, a program like that can be confusing and if not done right can give you a wrong reading, I mean if you understand how to do that then have a ball but I think the other ones are much simpler. Just saying...
I use the measuring program on occasion. I'd have to agree that knowing the length of your snake can be pretty pointless. (hehehehe) Weight is a much better indication of growth, IMHO.
Nanci that program looks great, will definately be using that when I next measure mine, saves stressing them by fiddling around with a tape measure or string or anything!
