Mice Direct Shipment

I don't want to start a new thread on this, especially since this is a similar topic. I bought some mice from TMF about a year ago. I noticed that with TMF mice, my snake's poop didn't smell badly at all. Once I switched over to RodentPro (only because it's available at my local herp show), I noticed it changed drastically. The poop smelled so much worse than it did before. I am curious as to whether or not anybody else has noticed this with their snakes. I've bought several batches of mice (different sizes), and the smell is still bad.

I didn't have enough snakes to justify paying that much from TMF, but now that I've got as many as I do, I'm definitely sending Edna an e-mail when I need to re-stock. I loved the mice I got from her.

Wow never expected my thread to get this much activity. As far as mice being dirty I don't mind its all natural and I put them in water anyway to warm them up so its really not that bad.

I like that Rodent Pro has 3 classes of pinkie and 2 classes of fuzzy. I haven't ordered from them, but I like the stuff I got from The Mouse Factory. Unless I really think I need an in-between size, I'll stick with TMF.

I bet if you called them and asked for a special order, they would accommodate you. So if you need an in-between size, or a very small first day pinkie, you can get it. You gotta talk to the right person.

Boy, now I'm afraid of the big order I put in with Rodent Pro. 650 mice, I'll be repackaging so I onlt open one package at each feed. I'm hoping this will last me a year. Other than RP and MD are there any other ft sites out there?

Yep, Rodent Pro's orders are exactly the same...broken limbs everywhere! Doesn't hurt anything. It's just their "flash-freeze" method.

"Good thing corn snakes hide. My wife thinks I only have one." ROFLMAO...I love that!

I put my mice/rats in warm water too, but still don't like the condition of the rodents from Rodent Pro. I know that snakes in their natural habitat eat what they can find, but prey animals in nature are not confined in filthy, overcrowded tubs. Healthy feeders = healthy snakes.

Suzy, that's interesting. I never noticed before, but will definitely see if I can tell the difference between the two. I'm placing an order with TMF this week, but still have a lot of stuff left from Rodent Pro.

"Healthy feeders = healthy snakes"....that's my motto exactly!

I didn't care for the Rodentpro mice, per se...but you couldn't beat it for the price, especially when you have a hundred hungry hatchlings to feed and hubby won't let you raise mice!
We raise our own rats & feed them a custom mixed food that I came up with on my own after some research (I mean, really, does anyone seriously think that a wild rat would eat a lab block if given a choice?)...and these are the biggest, fattest, healthiest rats you'll ever see!...but when it comes to hatchlings, of course even the smallest rat pinky is too big. Problem solved this year, I finally got my ASFs! I give them the same mix as the rats, but they seem to like more grain & less protein, so I just adjust the mix a little for them.
I highly recommend to anyone that if you CAN raise your own feeders, you really SHOULD. It eliminates that whole question of, "am I feeding my snakes healthy prey items?" (And if you *do* raise your own...be sure you're not giving them ANYTHING with red dye in it...not even chewing blocks! Doesn't harm the rats, but WILL harm the reptiles!)
If anyone is interested in my custom mix...let me know and I will post it in the "feeders" area. I really feel that it is great, cheap & easy to make!
