Miranda rights or no Miranda rights?

Obama said yesterday he was "open to looking at" changing the Miranda rule.

Read the New York Times article here.

Hey, I'm open to looking at it, too. Any good President should be willing to at least listen and potentially learn from new situations, and make things better in the future.

That's not to say I think the Miranda Rights should be waived for ANY suspect...I just think that's ludicrous. But I'm fairly certain that if one were to pay close enough attention, one might find some holes in the Rights of the Accused that could be plugged to help make our Justice System run more smoothly and act more effectively and efficiently.

I think we can all agree that there is very little that is perfect in this world. Any efforts to shore up loopholes is a good thing, in my opinion. As long as they aren't denying basic Civil Rights to accused individuals, that is...

You know, from a serious PoV this is a really GOOD question. Does Miranda apply to noncitizens? Is there any legal precedent to tell us if SCOTUS thinks it does? Or doesn't? Whatever the current legal position is (and I really don't know because Miranda is DERIVED from the Constitution and I am not sure how to figure out how this would work -- I think I need a lawyer!), should we change it?
