Mites EVERYWHERE...and they're dead!

As referenced in my thread here after just 10 hours since treating my new corn with Nix his paper towel substrate is just littered with dead mites from the teeny black specks of dirt to poppy seed size, all the way to nearly sesame seed size. It's amazing how many mites were on him that I didn't see. As per the suggested treatment he'll be treated again in a week and one more a week later.

I'll keep everyone updated on the effectiveness of the treatment and how the snake comes out of it, but so far so good.

how do mites look on a snake ?

You will either see little white specks (mite doo doo) on the snake or you may see little black moving specks which are the actual mites.

There aren't any more mites ON the snake, but I'll see what I can do about some pictures.

Just wanted to offer a final update. I've completed the 4 week cycle for the NIX treatment as suggested. It seems all the mites were dead after only the first treatment, but I continued to treat anyway. I followed the instruction exactly as stated in the post that I linked above. No more mite problems and no mites ever spread to my collection elsewhere in the house.

The NIX treatment worked very well, very quickly and completely, and I didn't have any health concerns for my snake. The only thing I noticed that may have been a result of the NIX treatment was a darkening of the head pattern skin on my snakes head. I didn't notice the darkening until he shed the other day and he looked completely different. This could have been, however, from something else related to the snake before I acquired him. This was his first shed since I got him, but the amount his head lightened after the first shed was remarkable. It's possible that the treatment may have caused this.

Overall the treatment was simple and inexpensive ($10.99 and there's still plenty left for more treatments). I know a few of you wanted to hear how this turned out. There you are!
