mites!!!!

thanks going to get some stuff tomorrow it will be a long day as i will have to clean out my whole room to make sure they are gone ! is it common to get mites?

It's not extremely unusual. More unusual if you don't have more then one however.

I did get a mite infestation a few months ago because a friend of mine built me a custom rack in his basement. Evidently his cats had mites which then nested in my rack's trim. I would have never known where the mites had come from if I hadn't decide to tear down the racks and build new ones. We found mites in the hot glue that was holding on the trim.

de-bugged

well de bugged gez hopefully it shud work, it was a challenge as i was on my own trying to clean and watch to make sure he did't escape from the tub i put him in! aw well at least he will be mite free now

Hi Frankie --

When I got my adult snakes they arrived and I set them up in their viv's -- upon inspection a few days later I found that mites were everywhere....

I got a spray from the vet and cleaned the viv's etc. I threw away all plants etc...
(I went a bit overboard) but despite all of that I ended finding more on them a few weeks later -- so just make sure you watch it closely -- I wouldn't put your normal substrate and plants *if you use them* back in there for a few weeks. I would just use good old fashioned paper towels!

and make sure to follow the instructions on the label if you should have to retreat !

Just some input I thought would be helpful!
have a great day!

thanks i think thats what im gonna have to do jus throw everything out, i will have to do him again today i think hes still twitching and he shed last night so i want to be on the safe side and get rid of allof then but untill next week i cnt get any new plants which is a bit arkward, he will be ok without them wont he i dnt really want to throw his hide away as he wont have anyware to hide

I think that you're not supposed to spray the snake with mite treatment right after they shed, but that probably depends on the brand. Olive oil is good to put on a papertowel and let the snake wiggle through. It gets some mites off and helps protect the snake from them.
