Momma won't eat?

bryanc

Peeple of zee wurl, relax
So I am a first time breeder and I have two ladies getting bigger by the day. But my ghost momma has refused 2 meals since her last introduction. Is this normal? I am concerned because my normal mom is eating regularly. I have tried giving the ghost an adult mouse (normal meal) and even a rat fuzzy since it was smaller, but to no avail. So any insight appreciated.

Some females loose their appetite when they get closer to laying time, so could just be she's getting to that point.

I even used to have one female who wouldn't eat all after mating; I always had to make sure she was mega big so she could handle it. If she's normally a good eater and isn't eating now; she probably won't start until she lays her eggs. After that, offer a smaller meal or two; she'll take them then. And then you can start trying to put her weight back on;

You could try a smaller food item than usual and see if she'll take it, but as stated by others, it's normal for females to refuse food as they get near laying. The eggs are taking up so much room, that their digestive systems simply don't have room to accomodate food as well.

Most of mine refuse at least two or three feeds before laying.

My gavid female just went blue this week and is refusing food too. Last year, I had a female who refused food several weeks before laying 21 eggs.
It's pretty normal.

I have the same thing, a female who just shed snapped at her meal in defense as I dangled it into her tub... she did not want to eat it but she did not want in in there with her lol crazy lady!

My female last year refused food her entire pregnancy. I called Kathy Love and she told me that occasionally her females will act like a male and not eat.
