Hi everyone
Talla is turning out to be a very lovely girl, just moved her to a bigger tank and she loves it been in there about 2-3 days now and she has had her first feed today, ive had her since september and she has shed twice, she is on 1 pinkie every 6-7 days i think she is about 7-8 months not to sure, when do i start feeding her more? shud i up it to 2 pinkies instead of 1? im not sure she is my first snake so everything is new

Yes I would move up to 2 if you feed every 6-7 days. Is the bulge in her belly noticeable from 24-48 hours after feeding? If that's a no, then yes I would bump up the feeding. When my snake was on pinkies he was on double pinkies at 2 months old. How old is your snake and do you have a weight or length?

I bump my snakes up to the next size when the mouse starts sliding down easily. The prey should be 1 and 1/2 times their thickest spot. If you still have pinkies, doubling the pinkies is also ok, although pinkies don't have as much calcium as bigger prey, so you'll want to move her up in size soon.

Good advice above. If the food "lump" in her belly goes down 24-48 hours after feeding, then she should be ready to trythe next size up.

Length doesn't really enter into it - it's the width of the body that's the guide to food size. As long as the food isn't more than one and a half times the width of the snake's body (not the head or neck) then it should be OK to try.

Remember that as food size goes up, feeding should be less frequent. This allows proper time for digestion and avoids overfeeding.

I've never measured with a measuring tape. I've just eyeballed it. If the prey that they are on now is about the size of their head, it is time to move up- since their head is smaller than the thickest part of their body.

Yep, it's fine to guess. Very little about Corn keeping is an exact science!

It is ok to keep on the smaller food if you are worried.
Watch the snake eat. How much does it struggle to get the mouse down? If it is getting the mouse down quickly, it is time to move up probably. That is my rule of thumb. When the mouse is right sized, they have to stretch their jaw lots and it takes a minute to cram it down.
